A few things to mention for those headed to GD for a political discussion.
1. Remember, most everyone in GD knows way more than you do. They are politically savvy and astute and most of them have held high office at some point. And if not, they have multiple political degrees from esteemed universities. Most are actually political science professors. They've written numerous published pieces, which means that someone was impressed by their 'credentials'.

2. When they say you are wrong, it's because of the sheer weight and volume of their extensive knowledge of the power structure in this country, that their opinion means so much more than yours. Try not to step out of line.

3. They can really type. They do it all the time. Lots of typing makes you much smarter than the average discussion board schmuck. Type more often and you'll gain the wisdom of the GD 'Pros'.

4. Learn to argue for the sake of the argument. That's a big mistake for a newbie going up against the seasoned GD 'Pro'. The newbie has an opinion that frequently gets crunched by the relentless drive not to be seen as wrong or misguided by the 'Pro'. It doesn't matter who falls on the side of the facts at this point, it's winning the argument in front of multiple anonymous internet strangers that matters. Think, 'Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer'.

5. Don't stand there and try duking it out with a 'Pro'. The two of you will take over the thread end up both looking like complete fools. Let the guy get the last word early on and the witnesses can make up their own mind regarding the 'winner'. Otherwise, you will type your fingers into bloody stumps by evening's end, and you'll both still look like adolescent pre-pubescent school kids.

6. Never ever try using humor in GD. It just doesn't work. The place is not set up for that. It will always fall flat. And it will be picked apart as something serious. Remember, these people are doing battle. They are in no mood for your witticisms. That's what the Lounge is for.

7. Try to remember that most of the posters in GD are big movers in this country. They set policy, they run corporations and they have huge teams of legal and scholastic professionals, trained and ready to pounce on you in a split second. The fact that they also have time to comment on this board is a true testament to their multitasking abilities. And to their perseverance in getting that one-sided, unwavering, unflappable opinion out there.

And if they can somehow humiliate you in the process, then all the better.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

When they say it's a Photoshop, they can tell by the pixels because they've seen a lot of Photoshops in their day.

7. If this was GD, your legs would be getting chewed on right now.
Less than 1000 posts! Attack! Attack!

I'm ashamed to admit I also fell into a n00b troll ambush in my early days here. Wasn't fun circling the wagons.

19. I have only had one ugly comment about being new in GD
and I was surprised that within a few minutes, it was deleted by the mods. Not that I thought it was that nasty personally, but what do I know. Maybe there was a secret code in it that I still don't know about. I figure there are a lot of these people who are nasty to everyone, so why not me too.

9. I have to laugh at some of the pointless arguments on GD.
They usually have nothing to do with the thread. It's just two people trying to get in the last word, or going at each other's necks.

11. I have three rules for GD
1. Never start a post.

2. Never respond to a post.

3. If you break rule 1 and/or rule 2, do not return to GD for at least 24 hours.

12. GD is like its own little political dimension
Totally unconnected to real life goings on in DC...For someone who has lived just outside the beltway for most of her life, its a funny little bubble sometimes.

""This RightHaven founder Steven Gibson is definitely a "Chicago Guy"...so I did a little digging in the public domain.....

Steven A. Gibson

Born: Chicago, Illinois, December 11, 1963

School: Chicago-Kent College of Law
Degree: J.D.
City: Chicago
State: IL
Year: 1990
Honors: IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law. Cum Laude 1990.

Prior to establishing his own firm, Mr. Gibson was an associate at Sidley Austin LLP a Chicago Law firm...

Just click on "Work History"

well well well...another Chicago guy who was there at the time finishing up Law School along with....Barack Obama...maybe they crossed paths?

In late 1988, Obama entered Harvard Law School. He was selected as an editor of the Harvard Law Review at the end of his first year,<37> and president of the journal in his second year.<38> During his summers, he returned to Chicago, where he worked as a summer associate at the lawfirms of Sidley Austin in 1989 and Hopkins & Sutter in 1990

...Guess where Mr and Mrs Obama met....

Following law school, she was an associate at the Chicago office of the law firm Sidley Austin, where she first met her future husband.

>>>> And Guess what Michelle and Steven Gibson both did???
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW...AT THE SAME LAW FIRM...!!!

At the firm, she worked on marketing and intellectual property.

Unreal...the networking between these people is staggering...

Because Not Surprisingly...

The White House Copyright Czar, Victoria Espinel, also worked at Sidley Austin.

About the Office of the U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC)

Hi, I am Victoria Espinel, the U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator.

I am honored to have been appointed by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve in this new position created by Congress in the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act of 2008.

This should be pinned to the top of GD forever. Most there would never bother reading it, though, assuming - almost invariably wrongly - that they know better.

At the same time, I get the feeling you must have been bested out there in GD-land recently. Whoever your more successful antagonist was, pray to God they don't see this thread. It will give them a great amount of satisfaction, I'm sure.

Caveat: I have no idea who you are or any guess as to who it was in GD that made you his or her debate bitch, at least temporarily.

31. Actually, no... I have no enemies over there at all. Go and look for yourself. You can hardly even
find a OP of mine there. And you won't find any two-man battles with me in them.

These observations are from me reading what goes on over there.

I hardly ever have a comment because of the raucous nature of the place.

Nope, no 'debate bitches' for me yet. My comments in there are brief and minimal.
