a kitty breakthrough moment
we have three female cats and a dog. His, hers and ours.

The dog is his, two of the cats are mine (well actually I'm their slave and servant), and the third cat we rescued two years ago as a kitten.

Well, the DH found her (correction, she found him) in our garage one day, two years ago.
So neglected and hungry was this 12 week old cat that she couldn't even mew anymore.

Fast forward two years later...we love her, but she's a little shitball of part crazy and part fun. She's broken things, gets into things, tears up things. We had to put child proof locks on cabinet doors. She even got into a sealed hard plastic container with the cat food. Doesn't understand boundaries very well...like jumping ON the other cats is really not a way to engender a sense of fun and togetherness, even though she's just trying to play. ALL food must be put away, as it's fair game, even in a container on the counter.
She even figured out a couple of times that if she walks under the dog when he goes out the dog door, she can go out too...which puzzles me because being outside scares the crap out of her. My favorite serving bowl on display on a side table, out of the way of cats???--clang, thud - just another play toy on the floor broken in three large unusable pieces. What fun! -- for her!

Even though she's ours, she clearly "daddy's girl", as I've only been useful and a food dispensing device. I don't get the cuddles, I don't get the lap naps, I don't get the 4am hand licking/walking on top of time to cuddle time. I just get the I'm-going-to-be-a-shitball-cuz-you're-not-him-and-I'll-pretend-to-like-you-for-5-minutes-twice-a-day treatment.

Well, my husband had to take a job out of town. I was a little worried about her, knowing he would be gone most of the time. The few times he's been home, she's been ALL OVER HIM.
Still it's been almost 2 months, and I was still getting the same treatment. She was still her old self, would let me pet her some, but still up to her old ways...really I didn't know she would go so long without getting her regular tummy scratches, her morning cuddles, her play and cuddle time without my husband.

Well, clearly two months is her breaking point because at 4:30 am this morning...something walked over me, finds my hand and...lick lick lick lick lick lick, purr, purr, purr, purr, cuddle, cuddle, cuddle, lick, lick, lick for about a half hour. Clearly I am a poor substitute for him (lol), but I guess now I'll "do" until he's home.

As I type this, I can hear her getting into something...

1. I'm like your husband....

My SO's cats like me better. She swears one of them is jealous of HER, and I have to admit she might be, LOL. But yes, first thing every morning, I have as many cats as can fit themselves on my side of the bed piling on me, nuzzling me, trying to wiggle under the covers with me, and rubbing their cheese-grater tongues and cold noses over any bits of exposed skin they can find while the SO sleeps soundly through that last, glorious, warm and snuggly snooze of the morning.

2. we call the three of them "the girls"

When I was a single girl, living with just the two older cats, they always met me at the door.

If I had a guest however, they would run and hide. One of them would eventually come out to say hello, but the other one, never.

Well, the first time he came to my apartment, I opened the door and there they were.
He walked in, they looked up at him...what did they do???? He reached down to pet them, and they didn't run!
I was shocked! Especially the black and white one....she never liked anyone but me. EVER!

I should have seen my single days were numbered. They apparently decided for me.
They do have good taste. :)
