Cat parents, a question about 12.5 oz. cans of cat food... how do you keep the food
fresh if the can isn't finished the same time it's opened?

I want to buy some Wellness in bulk in the 12.5 oz. size cans, but my cats don't eat a lot at any one time -- I imagine the can will last over the course of 2-3 days. I usually buy the smaller 3 oz. or 5.5 oz. cans and never have really had to worry about freshness over a few days.

What do you do? And if you refrigerate the cans, what do you do to get the food back to an "acceptable" temperature and texture for your felines? Do you have the little plastic can-tops and do they seem to work well?

Thanks for any feline parenting advice. :hi:

1. Get more cats. That way you'll never have leftovers.
Actually, I don't know the answer to your question. Maybe you could freeze several parts of each can, then microwave it as needed, just enough to warm it a little?

2. Plastic can tops in the fridge works well.
But only for so long. 2-3 days, you should be okay.

5. do you re-heat?
If so, I know it'd be on the plate, not in the can. For how long? These kids eat no more than probably 2 tsp. twice a day (except for the big guy Ivan, he probably eats about 3tsp. twice a day).

7. Not a chance.
There is no stink like heated/cooked wet cat food. It permeates everything.

I'm going to buy one of each of the kind I want to buy in bulk, and see what happens...
