Has the quality of your handwriting suffered since the age of computers and emails?
My handwriting never was good but it sure got worse since I write less and less by hand.

1. Yes. I still write letters from time to time, and am chagrined at the wretched scribbles I produce. |

Yes, because I don't do much writing, outside of scribbling notes and working on mathematical equations. I have to practice my calligraphy more.

26. I think calligraphy is what helped further mess up my |
|
Handwriting. Now it is a mix of cursive and print but the print letters are from calligraphy.
If I want to write in proper cursive, I have to go so slow I may as well draw the letters one by one.

it is just me (only librarian), my boss (majored in German) and a library assistent. So yes, I do a lot of cataloging, actually almost all cataloging. And I admit I enjoy cataloging. I know not all librarians like that task.

The nuns of my childhood would be beating my knuckles bloody with their ever handy rulers, if they could see it now.
They used to do it then too because they said I used to hold my pen or pencil too tight like someone was going to take it away from me.
The ironic thing was is that is exactly what they use to do to. Come up suddenly behind you and try and pull the writing utensil from your hand. If they couldn't do it eaisly the offender got whacked. Oh the good ole days.
But to answer your question yes my hand writing is deteriorating! It is now somewhat of a mix between printing and cursive, and it seems to take me longer than it use to. Maybe it is partially the aging process too but I am only 48.

Grammar. I don't read as many books so that example of proper grammar is less prevalent. And message boards and internet postings in general are hardly Strunk and White friendly.
I often find myself unable to figure out a way to end particular sentences without prepositions. (Look at that sentence for an example--it can be read multiple ways)
The worst part is that I find posters of Dutch origin write in English beautifully. Clear and precise sentences.
I am embarrassed and it seems to be getting worse.

I read your original post as I was replying and thought she will understand proper grammar. Just don't start your posts apologizing for your poor English so that I have to reply with something like, "I'm an American and you write English good. I couldn't do any better than that!" I guess I'm just feeling sorry for myself... http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41X4R5RSB0L._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpg

24. I have aways had problems with writing by hand. |
|
People could bare read it when I was a kid. Back then we practiced for hours on making the perfect letter. What made it worse was my mother was a teacher and when I got home I had to practice more. Only after HS was I diagnosed with dyslexia. Computers are much easier for me to use and now that arthritis is kicking in even more so.

34. Yes. Data entry gave me a repetitive motion injury that |
|
makes my wrist really painful after only a few written lines.
That was in the early days, before a mouse with links to click, when, to enter one piece of data, I had to hit "enter" with my right pinky a dozen or more times, every time, to find the field I was looking for.

I print clearly enough, especially if I'm writing for someone else to read, but my cursive reads like I was sitting in a giant paint shaker while writing.
I'm trying to figure out what to make of the fact that my writing in other alphabets is usually cleaner.

I'm a big believer in handwritten letters and notes in contrast to the ease of email, just as I'm a big believer in reading books as opposed to reading only online. I don't send handwritten letters and notes every day, but there's something about the act of handwriting that makes me slow down, think about what I want to say, and make the words count. :hi:

I think I was very luck. Beautiful handwriting was something of a gift.
Not anymore.
It isn't the use of a computer that has hurt my handwriting. Because of joint and muscle pain I just can't use my hands anymore for almost anything. I can barely hold a pen. So my handwriting is a mostly illegible scrawl now.
Typing is one of the few things I can still do with my hands. I just can't use some of my fingers anymore when I type.
