...I guess I'm getting married this weekend.
We were planning on late September but my fiance comes home late night and says his supervisor is leaving in September. Well, the owner wants Lover Boy to be the new team supervisor. The only catch is things will get busy as we head into autumn as orders skyrocket. The owner knows we want to take 2 weeks for a honeymoon but says he needs Lover Boy all autumn.
This is a really big break for him. The hours will be worse but the working conditions will be much better, less dangerous and he gets a truck and a big pay bonus. He hasn't been there but maybe a year but the owner says the other guy on the team is too stupid to promote even though he's been there longer (he's a really nice guy but he is kind of...uncomplicated) and he doesn't want to hire someone knew because, "the asshole you know is better than the asshole you don't." That being said he really likes my fiance. He even offered us the keys to his cabin in the mountains because that is where we want to honeymoon.
But I asked Lover Boy if he wants to postpone until next spring.
Nope. He says we deserve better, we have our whole lives ahead of us, so what's wrong with an extra 8 months. If things aren't too rushed would I marry him this weekend?
Yeah. yeah I would.
Well, me being a hippie chick and him being laid back in his own right we think we can do this. It's going to be an outdoors wedding. Nothing fancy just family, friends and a preacher.
So this afternoon he's driving down to see me at work and we're getting our license.
I told my dad this morning and I always expect him to have some smart-ass remark. All he said is he is happy for me and he is, "so very, very, VERY proud" of me. I wanted to cry. Thanks daddy.
Lover Boy's parents are pretty much the same way. He just texted me to say his mom cleared her schedule to do whatever we ask. I wanted to make sure "help" didn't translate into "take control of" but he assures me she will do nothing without our express statement. I think I can trust her. It's very hard for me to relate to his mom because she's southern christian conservative but apparently she adores me. All he ever tells me is how she's always bragging about her son's fiance. Mostly her help will just be putting together a reception and that is probably little more than a cookout for 30 some odd people.
Anyway, I have a hectic next couple of days and then I may be gone for a couple of weeks...but I'm happy, proud and excited all at one big swirling time.
No, really, I'm happy. I don't think I've ever been happier.

6. So now I have a marriage license. |
|
If any of you have known me since I first came to DU this is no small matter.
Me, the arch-radical feminist that has denounced marriage as a tool of oppressive patriarchal regimes...
...now has a marriage license.
And I'm simply walking on clouds.
Lover Boy was surprised to hear the state has no waiting period from the time you get your license until you can actually get married.
He said something to the effect of--in many states you have to wait, just like when you go to buy a gun. But the wait time is usually the same which is ironic because you have better odds of dying while married then dying because of a gun.
I balled my fist and replied to his smart-assed-ness that odds were pretty good he could die unmarried right then and there.
The clerk asked us if we were sure we weren't already married.
Then Lover Boy gave me the usual kiss on the forehead to let me know he's just teasing and I gave him my usual play-punch to the stomach to let him know I knew.
BTW - when I got back to the office my boss gave me a hug and a check. He said he was sorry it couldn't be something more personal but he was thinking he had another month. He also gave me the rest of the week off plus 2 weeks for the honeymoon.
I am totally surrounded by the sweetest people.

11. I don't know if any of you people have been married before but |
|
holy crap weddings take a lot of planning, coordinating...
...and money!</naive>
We're doing it on the cheap too. Feeding 40 guests (was 30) ain't cheap. Fortunately Lover Boy's family got coin. I can't tell you how grateful I am for them. Soon-to-be mom-in-law was good to her word. She's keeping me from freaking out but she checks with me on every detail to make sure I'm cool with it.
I am soooo giving her a giant hug when I see her today.
Bad news. Lover Boy wanted an army buddy to be his best man. They've been through a lot (too much, in fact) together but his friend has to "go to the field" this weekend which from what I gather is the army's version of camping/playing war.
Good news. He asked if my gay boyfriend, who was to be my maid--er--slut of honor--would pull double duty as his best man. I think he's doing that just to get a reaction from his mom.
I called my friend from college to make some arrangements for Saturday night.
She's a dancer.
Anyway, Sunday is a day which will live in infamy. This is a whirlwind of giddiness, excitement, terror, panic, serene happiness and bewilderment.
Is this normal?

15. it's crazy enough just planning dinner for 44 (yes, it grew again) |
|
It's not like we need a chapel or I need a huge gown with flowing train and doves released into the air.
Just a modest ceremony and a cook-out and it still seems nuts.
Why do people torture themselves?

17. Oh thank god...he's started to turn away people asking to come |

Friends of his dad, I think.
Politely telling him mom space is limited but a card expressing best wishes will be fine.
Did I mention I love him?
I love him!
