so Hank Aaron's record was broken and I never heard about it |
|
Probably you didn't either. For 24 years, from 1976 until 2000, Aaron held the record for - hitting into double plays. His total was 328. It's kinda funny to see how many great players are also on that list. Yaz is #3 with 323 followed closely by Dave Winfield and Eddie Murray. Willie Mays, Ted Williams, Harmon Killebrew, Robin Yount are all on the list, even Derek Jeter is #69 and A-Rod is #83. Curiously though, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner and Ty Cobb do not make the top 100 and neither does Barry Bonds. Bonds only hit into a mere 165 double plays. Aha, the Babe is only showing with 2, both in 1935, so I am guessing that they did not keep those stats before 1935 which would also explain why Wagner and Cobb are not on the list.
34 year old Miguel Tejada may have a chance to break the record, if he really buckles down. He is at 245 and needs just 106 more for the record. He can do that in just 4 years, since he hit into 111 double plays between 2006 and 2009. He's a little off this year, with only 13. It does not help that he plays for the O's, currently the worst team on baseball. His team-mates are probably not getting on base, which is hurting Tejada's production of double plays.
Can you guess who broke Aaron's record?

5. actually Fisk has fallen to #81 |

he's now behind A-Rod. Although it looks like it will be a while before he gets knocked out of the top 100. There are not many active players in the top 200 who are close to Pudge's total of 204. Griffey has 199 and so does Pujols. Garrett Anderson has 197. Omar Vizquel is tied for 97th with 195, but he's 43 and has only hit seven in the last three seasons in spite of having over 600 at bats.

3. I'm surprised that Bengie Molina isn't further up on that list. |

He has glacial speed on the base paths.

6. considering he has less that 5,000 at bats to Aaron's 11,000+ |
|
his current total of 170 is pretty high. He only needs 25 more to crack the top 100.

4. hey that other site was not up to date |

I-Rod is still playing and only needs two more to break Aaron's record. Ivan Rodriguez. He only needs 24 more to be all time leader and he CAN do that in one season, and more than likely will do that in two more seasons.
