Yes, that is James Burton on a Gretsch guitar...at least on the film. James is THE Telecaster guy and that solo sound ain't no Gretsch.

2. I like "Fools Rush In" primarily for James Burton's guitar solo

It's perfect, it has symmetry, it's a model of what a tight, melodic solo should be. I pretty much like all of Rick / Ricky's "greatest hits," including the one you posted.

In the 70s...when Emmylou Harris was touring behind her second album, "Elite Hotel," I had front-row seats at the Circle Star Theater for her show (which means I was sitting about ten feet away, I kid you not). That means I saw her and the Hot Band...INCLUDING James Burton. What a night. Willie Nelson was the headliner...he did about two and a half hours, and a lot of medleys, except they were more like Grateful Dead sets, where he strung several songs together, seamlessly, without a break
