2. I'd love to
but you'll have to do your own rain dance :P

See if you can get Bill White to speak there again. Maybe the rain will follow him :D

4. If it disperses the heat, that's fine with me!
I might be able to shut the a/c off for once in a few days ;)

7. We had huge rain/thunderstorms here the last few days.
Temps dropped from over 90 to 40 something. Feels like fall, but it's supposed to be over 90 again later this week. Crazy summer ...

:hi:

8. You get 90F temps there?
Wow. I figured it wouldn't get any higher than the low 80s. Are the Alps melting? :P

9. You think we live on an Alp and ski the whole year long?
 Highest this year was 97. http://www.ticino.ch/

It's only 20 minutes to Italy from here. But we get some snow on the palmetto trees here in winter. ;)

10. I figured you lived in one of the valleys,
just a high-altitude one ;)

I'm 66' above sea level here. Can you beat that? :P

11. Valleys, ewwww ...
Edited on Mon Aug-16-10 05:37 PM by Call Me Wesley
It's rural enough here, but not as bad as in a valley. :scared:

Let me see, it's 1197.506' above sea level, so I can't beat that. And I wouldn't like to. I saw too many nice holiday villas at 66' here getting free indoor lake water swimming pools when the lake overflows. ;)

13. The only ones getting free indoor pools here are the ones right on the coast
or Galveston Bay. Some friends had four feet of water mixed with raw sewage in their home when Hurricane Ike came through, but they're right on the bay, maybe ten feet up. I don't even have a major bayou within a mile of here, so I'm mostly high and dry, and mostly dry lately.

It's nice to get the rain, but I'd like to see a return to our normal 3pm 5-minute thunderstorms. It helps keep things cooler overall :)

14. I'd say that's more likely for residents of Stinkadena and Deer Park
than the rest of Houston ;)

Although it could be spittle from all the RW radio listeners... :P

and my father worked at Shell in Deer Park, so I'm familiar with what else can fall out of the sky, especially the closer you get to the Ship Channel ;)

30. It's wearing me down, too,
but mostly because the a/c in this apartment is too small for my unit (central air, not a window unit.) The landlord is cheap, so I end up having to freeze overnight and the next morning in order to keep the indoor temps from getting above 85F. I've already got the handyman/neighbor on my side such that when I'm working again, we'll be painting the roof of my unit white to help cut down on some of the heat. I can't get my libertarian landlord to agree to even that kind of cheap fix.

The alternatives are to leave in the afternoon for someplace like the library or a cafe that doesn't mind me staying a few hours ;)

34. Yeah, that's also why the older houses (and roads) in Houston
are aligned NW/SE for the coastal breezes. No such luck for this small set apartments, even though they were built in the 50s. But, the price is right and I don't have to pay for the electricity. Still, you'd think when given ideas on saving electricity, that landlords would jump on it...

22. we had a crazy downpour about 6 - like an inch in 20 minutes or less
and it has been drizzling on and off since then (8:43 right now)
it has been a pretty good summer so far we must be close to 6 inches since June.

24. That sounds nice!
A drizzle would keep the temps down, so long as it only happens in the latter part of the day. Too early and it just turns into a steam-injection oven ;)

and bake your pizzas outside :D
