Brockton, Mass. -- Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Bill Lee signed with the Brockton Rox of the Can-Am League on Monday.

The 63-year-old left-hander will start the season finale on Sept. 5 against the Worcester Tornadoes.

Lee still pitches over 200 innings per year in over-40 men's leagues in New England and Atlantic Canada. He pitched for the Red Sox from 1969-78, winning 17 games each season from 1973-75. He was traded to Montreal in 1979 where he won 16 games in the first of his four seasons there.

Lee owns the Red Sox franchise record for games pitched by a left-hander with 321. He was inducted into the team's Hall of Fame in 2008.

Always have been, and always will be, a big fan of the "Spaceman". Only got to see him pitch in person once; for Montreal...a chilly 4th of July at Wrigley Field. I'm an old Cub fan ,but always appreciated both a truly cool person, and a skilled player,no matter who they played for, and I had to admire how Lee took the Cubs batters apart like a surgeon without appearing to have ever thrown a pitch of over about 70 miles an hour.

1. Gordie Howe did a one-day minor-league contract at a similar age
so he could be the only player to have laced 'em up in five decades ('50s through '90s).

2. Spaceman Lee, famous for the "Leephus."
A well thrown Eephus is a rarity in baseball these days.
