To be overrated, you have to have less talent than and produce inferior material to acts that have far more commercial success than you do. Not even the average Freeper is stupid enough to say that Iron Maiden does not leap over shite like that by leaps and bounds.

The "Beast Over Hammersmith" disc in THIS set pretty much puts to rest any bullshit about Maiden being "overrated"...it's like the end of "Unforgiven" when Clint Eastwood single-handedly kills about half the movie's cast. They just come out with guns blazing and do not let up for the entire show...

But not about Maiden; Iron Maiden was a great band.

To be overrated, you have to be less good, or worse, than most people think. To be underrated, you have to be better than what is held by common perception. You could say that Iron Maiden is underrated by the public because they don't sell as many records as other bands, but Iron Maiden was never in it to get the biggest audience. They have a loyal audience; few bands have that and Maiden's audience is pretty large, except by mass-market standards.

I have never before heard the claim that Iron Maiden is or was overrated. Perhaps that may be because I never read or listen to music critics, who tend to think that every band you've ever liked is overrated. So fuck them.

If you think Iron Maiden is overrated, you're ignorant. I'll go that far.
