Fellow authors/poets:
How many drafts do you typically do, and how long do you typically spend between the first draft and a finished product?

Also, how do you know if what you write is "good?" And what percent of what you write is typically rejected, and what is kept?

Thanks! :hi:

5. The script I sold went through approximately 20 drafts
Not the entire script was rewritten every time, and about 10 of those times were when "my" producer wanted things completely changed, and then someone at New Line whom he knew gave a few suggestions. I spent one of my birthdays working from 6am until 11:00 pm to finish the last draft. It was worth it, since I had an actual sale to a real producer, a feat very rare for a spec script, as several DUers can attest to!

8. It was something I've been very proud of
Even though it didn't get greenlighted, alot of big-name folks read it.

7. A lot of truth to the "hard work = results" rule
Self-evident, in fact, unlike some of the lazy-ass shit you see these days.

Teh Internets has caused too many people to labor under the delusion that they are The Next Big Thing In Publishing.

13. I am in the first draft of a book
It will probably take at least 5 years or or longer to finish. I am a terrible poet so I only write it to my husband. I did my own wedding vows which were darn good and they were somewhat poetic but still not for more than my own wedding.

What are you writing?
