BTW , last week I went into the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the first time ever
That was a Religious experience , I even caught the last day of the special Picasso exhibit.

After not being able to finish looking at stuff in a single day , a friend pointed out that you can pay anything you want to get in , the ticket prices are only suggested prices !!!

I am hooked .

1. That is what amazed me 15 years ago when I read a travel book on NY City. There is a huge number
of museums there. You are very lucky!

2. The Met is one of those monster museums that you can't possibly take in in a day...
or maybe even in a lifetime. It's not meant to be a day trip-- think of it more as you would a library or research institute open to the public.

Go back and find one gallery or exhibit and just spend a few hours there absorbing it all. Then grab a bite and maybe glance at another gallery to give you something to think about for your next trip.

Many years ago I lived within walking distance of the Met and as many times as I went there, there was always something new. Or something I missed the last time.

3. The only thing I love more than a good museum is a library
I am jealous.

4. That would be a dream come true.
I didn't know that about the ticket prices.

5. The Met is a special place
I love great art museums- lucky enough to live near Philadelphia, which has several, and an easy train ride to NYC or Washington DC

7. And you'll have the new Barnes.....
Edited on Tue Aug-24-10 09:09 AM by The empressof all
I'm really jealous about that one. I don't get back to Philly often enough but IMO that's one of the greatest "smaller" collections in the world. It will be nice to see them show more of it in their larger space. Just thinking about seeing it makes me happy

6. One of my favorite museums. But you have to spend more time there.
One day is not nearly enough time. :)

8. I used to go frequently when I lived near NYC
One of my favorite places was that Middle Eastern room with the maroon velvet cushions.

9. I could spend a month there. I have not been for decades, but I will never forget it.
You are fortunate to have seen it.
