3. Turns out the only way I find out about the locked thread is a day or so later

then, when I manage to find it Name Removed usually takes up the last ten or so posts

I always miss the good stuff :-)

5. A very nice poster (except when we argue about taxpayer funded stadiums) taught me this....

a) Click the search icon
b) You'll see a google page, but you'll also see a link that says simple search
c) At the search screen, there's a pulldown menu with all of the various forums; select the forum of your choice
d) Put the word "Locking" in the keyword box
e) Click search
f) See what you missed...experience the moderator's angst firsthand

Hardened, battle tested mods - working together, reaching into their depth of mod experience, to try -- to desperately try - to reach consensus on whether a conversation needs to be terminated.

Have you ever received an order from DU HQ? Has Skinner, or even perhaps Barack Obama himself, ordered that you immediately end a conversation?

How is it to end speech? Is there remorse? Is there a rush? Is there a sudden, but always repressed, urge to begin a sex thread?

....and what of the consequences? Do you enjoy the tomb-stoning? The e-mails from the irate, wounded conversationalists -- "why? why my thread? he started it - you're not killing his thread? HE should be TOMBSTONED !"
