I succeeded in not arguing on the internet! |
|
Well, in one case at least.
I was having a long debate about whether language rules are arbitrary (and whether poor grammar means anything). I had done actual research, I had prepared this long post about the history of English speaking monarchs and the printing press, and I thought "fuck it. I'm arguing with someone who I DON'T KNOW, at all, about something I really don't care all that much about. I'm going to go do something else now."
Do I get kicked out of the Lounge for this? ;)

3. That's a disappointment. I was hoping, sorta, for an argument. |
|
elsewhere.
I, after posting something, did some thinking about this yesterday and came to the conclusion that the only reason to argue on the internet (at least anonymous nobodies on some message board, not someone credentialed trying to sway the audience) is to get someone to say "I was wrong."
Nobody ever does that though.
I considered it though. Maybe 'I was wrong.'
How people argue all day long in GD, no doubt whilst working jobs, amazes me.
I am not so energetic.
Unless it's arguing about guitar players or some such arbitrary shit...

but in those, you will often hear people saying "hmm, that IS a good point," or "touche," or "ah, you have me there." Or, worst of all, "I don't know, you may be correct on that. Let's look it up"

8. This isn't an argument |
|
yes it is
I love the argument clinic. It's up there for me with cheese shop, dead parrot, job interview and airplane pilots.
