I forgot to take my meds for about 24 hours |
|
I apologize for any weirdness that may have ensued, although I don't think I got too much weirder than I usually am. :)
It's hard to keep in a pattern out here on the road sometimes with the crazy schedule of a long haul trucker. I usually catch myself if I miss one dose because I start to feel strange. I guess I wasn't paying attention to what my body was telling me.
I started to feel like there was something terribly wrong, not missing doses wrong, but like I had done something to hurt someone. That's when I realized earlier today what had happened. Nothing terribly wrong, just missed a couple of doses.
Feeling like I'm wrong, bad, sinful, and downright scum is my un-medicated state of being along with some abnormal psychological symptoms. No amount of talk therapy has been able to change that. It goes to the core of my being. I understand why I'm like that, but that hasn't changed anything. The only thing that works is medication, and, thankfully, it works well.

While I sure could use some female company at times out here, a dog might be a better choice :). They probably tolerate weirdness a little better.

You know, I wrote that post jokingly, but it is actually in reality pretty close to the kind of woman I need. So grab a can of skoal, baby, and PM me your number. :)

16. Some dogs can be trained to alert you when you miss your meds enough - |
|
- to cause an altered state of mind. I once worked with a Vietnam vet who's dog would warn him when he was going to go into an altered state. As a disabled vet, he was able to get a subsidy for a companion/medical alert dog. You might want to check around and see what breed types are known to be medical companion dogs, and look for a happy, protective mutt with those type characteristic that loves long truck rides...

6. I have trouble remembering what to take and when... |
|
. . . . . Hell, when I was in college and got to the sidewalk in front of my place, I would literally LOOK to make sure I remembered my pants. . Seriously. . . . . I never actually forgot them (darn the luck). . . But I HAD to make sure. . . . ...sometimes I'll go to take my meds, get distracted by something else, and then hours later have a debate with myself as to whether I actually took them. . . What turned the tide for me cost me $1.29. I got one of those 7-day pill dispensers and lay out my meds in advance. . . That way, no debate. If they're still in the dispenser... duh. . . I highly recommend this, my friend. You're right about getting naturally disoriented on the road -- it's not like you have a 9-5 regularity that helps order your life. . . They have all kinds for all sorts of pill regimens. . . .

Tobin - There are also electronic devices you may want to consider which remind you of your meds. e.g. http://www.time2med.com/weeklymed.html
