I just got the new Kindle today
All I can say is wow! The screen is really something. Reportedly the screen is better than the older ones, but I never really messed with any of the older ones for any length of time so I don't really have a point of reference.

When I got it, right out of the box it had an image on the screen. I thought it was some type of paper overlay made to look like a screen shot, so I started trying to figure out how to take it off (I feel like such a dumbass). Nope, that is the screen. It looks like a piece of paper. The only way you can really tell is to angle the screen so you get a glare.

I wish it had a touch screen or some other easier way to input things, but you certainly can't beat the thing for screen clarity and readability. So far I'm happy with it. I don't know why I haven't gotten one of these sooner.

3. I'm reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes right now
These are the first Sherlock Holmes short stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and published in The Strand Magazine. I've read all the Sherlock Holmes novels and short stories, but it's about time for me to reread at least some of them. I've also got a lot more classics lined up. It's going to take me a long time just to get through the free stuff I want to reread.

4. I did the exact same thing.
The text on that initial screen was so clear I thought it was one of those transparent static cling overlays also.

Glad I wasn't the only one. It is amazing. I have a Kindle 2 (my wife gets it) and this version is better in every respect:
* better display
* smaller in every dimension but screen is exact same size
* faster refresh
* holds more books
* longer battery life
* cheaper

It synced up with my library instantly. I saved $50 and went w/ wifi only model.

Enjoy.
