Something I heard on the radio today concerning DWI.
I'll try to look it up in a minute, but I could swear they said in a PSA something like "Remember...it does not take much to put you over the limit. If a 170 pound man drinks 4 drinks in an hour, he is over the legal limit".

I'm well over 170, and even on a relatively full stomach, 4 regular (non-lite) cans of beer in an hour (one every 15 minutes) would knock me on my ass.

When I drink beer, I tend to drink slower in the beginning, and then as I start feeling no pain, I tend to drink them much faster. I guess I'm saying that I have to be fairly drunk to start drinking a 12 oz. beer every 15 minutes, and I'm surprised that the cut-off for a 170 pound male is not something lower than 4 beers in an hour.

1. I just found this...
If you are a male, and you weigh 180 pounds, over one hour it will take 5 American beers to get a DUI because your BAC will be .86%. Three dry martinis will take you over the limit, with a BAC of .97%.

If you are a female that weighs 140 pounds, over one hour it will take 4 American beers to get a DUI because your BAC will be .96%. Two dry martinis will also cause you to go over the legal limit, with a BAC of .89%.

6. I'm having my doubts about the lawyers from that site.

They are wrong by a factor of ten.
>08 is the limit.
They say that five beers will put your BAC at .86%.
It should be .086%

And this screen grab from their video shakes my confidence even more:

2. I was one of those guys.
I had plenty of other reasons to quit drinking, but it became much less fun for me when my liver couldn't cash my six-beers-an-hour checks anymore. That led to a whole lot of short, embarrassing nights.

Curiously, even though it's been years since I quit, I still drink large volumes of non-alcoholic liquids every day--mostly water, at least a gallon a day. Part of the problem might have been that I was just thirsty. But a much bigger part of the problem was that I was thirsty and didn't have the smarts or control to switch it up between water and beer.

4. It is a well documented fact that a couple of beers increases the horsepower of cars
With all the extra horsepower the car gets from the driver drinking beer, it is no wonder people go over the limit. A twelve pack can result in speeds over 100 MPH in a 25 zone with no problem. Loud rock and roll music seems to enhance the cars ability to go over the speed limit too.

Be careful with those cars folks. There is a new study showing that a wash and wax job results in the tires spinning on the pavement and increases the cars ability to make really cool slides through corners.

5. Did you know that alcoholic beverages also impede the ability of firearms
to stay safely in a pickup truck gun rack? I observed this growing up in a small town in Oklahoma.

On the flip side, oddly enough, alcoholic beverages seem to do little to improve one's marksmanship skills.
