Will you see Halley's Comet when it returns? It's possible, though improbable, that I will. |
|
If I do I will be a centenarian. Halley's Comet last appeared in the inner Solar System in 1986 and will next appear in mid-2061.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halley's_Comet

There will be younger women out there for me to seduce, so I'll be hanging out in bars at retirement homes. :P

I saw it the last time though. My dad woke me up cause he said we wouldn't be around for the next time, most likely. He used to wake me up for all the sky shows.

I don't remember if I saw it back in 1986 - I was wrapping up my freshman year of college or starting my sophomore year... I was likely more concerned about women than I was about a comet, but I may have taken notice. Just don't remember.

13. No, that won't happen for me |

My grandfather saw it twice. He had great stories about when he saw it for the first time as a little boy. I looked forward to see it with him for years; sadly its return in '86 was anti-climatic.
My grandfather lived in a small town the first time he saw it. The town was in a panic because the rumor was that the comet had deviated from its course and was headed for a direct hit to earth. Grandfather remembers half the town drunk, and the other half in church.
He'd ran to his mom saying "Mom, this is the end of the world!" Mom told him, "No it isn't. Go play and stop listening to such nonsense!" He goes and tells one of his brothers, "It's OK. Mom says this is nonsense. There's nothing to worry about". Then the boys hear their mother cry "OH, LORD, IF WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE, PLEASE LET ME DIE SURROUNDED BY MY CHILDREEENNN!!!!
The boys look at each other and one of them says "Did you hear Mom? We're going to DIE!". Mom knew everything.
It ended to be a spectacular sight for them. Not having electricity must have made Halley look even more amazing.

14. I'm several years away from being eligible |
|
for Social Security, not to mention Medicare, but I am several years onto the dark side of 50. In other words, in 2061, barring some really good luck, I will be food for worms.

15. Possibly, but I think it's more likely that if I want to see it again I'll have to go to it, |
|
rather than waiting for it to come to me. What's the going rate for a short-range near-FTL sightseeing trip?

|
I will be drooling all over myself, and probably other places will spring leaks too.
I hope I don't get the chance.

My grandmother made it to 100, but no one else in the family has.
I feel privileged to have seen Hyakutake, which was clearly visible in Portland for several nights.
