Who's the most boring singer you know of?
I'm taping older records for my aunt, and I'm hearing old singers I haven't heard in a long time.
With good reason, some of them are sleep aids. :boring:

So far, it's:

1. Eddy Arnold
2. Perry Como

2. Doris Day was pretty bad, too.
The days when white singers didn't wanna be associated with "Race Music"...it all sucks. Sounds like melodies dipped in a vat of clorox, with overenunciation to prove how white they all were.

I grew up at the onset of British Invasion and Mowtown in the 60s, and by that time everyone sounded black. The Young Rascals, white Acadians from Quebec, did songs like Good Lovin' and Beautiful Morning, which could've been Mowtown.

Okay...it sucks that so many rock n' roll singers stole their styles from African Americans, but it sure made for more interesting Top 40!!!

42. I like a lot of her movies, including "The Man who Knew Too Much"
Mostly, because I love Hitchcock, and in spite of the fact that she sings Que Serra Serra in it. But that whole genre of overenunciating white singers to prove they're not black is like aural itching powder to me! I cringe at the McGuire sisters, Jo Stafford, et al--but I actually like Rosemary Clooney because "Come on 'a my House" has some soul.

Thank God for civil rights on so many levels: but one of the main things is it brought great Black Music into the mainstream.

48. Doris Day is an activist
I don't think of her as trying to sound black; I think of her as more of a cross between a big band singer and a show tune singer - halfway between Rosemary Clooney and Shirley Jones, both of whom I also like.

12. Fucking hell yeah. What a fucking loser he is.
yeah, it's great that a most likely gay person is getting all rah rah rah from the otherwise xenophobic ignorati of this cultural shithole of z country, but goddamn - the kid just fucking sucks as an artist, and I'm not willing to judge a person's artistry on their sexuality, gender, race, or mental illness.

Art can only be judged by actual artistry.

And Bieber just don't have it.

Dave Matthews has always put me to sleep. Or I get agitated when I realize his songs WON'T END. Either way, he elicits a negative reaction from me. Can't stand his stuff.

Also, I've found that recent "hit" song by Lady Antebellum to be better than a glass of warm milk. "Need You Now"? Is that it? It's SOOOOOO uninspired and just, well, badly written. Bores me to death.

26. Eddy was very much a product of his era...
...I grew up in a home where the soundtrack was basically Country & Western classic: Eddy Arnold, Chet Atkins, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens...and many more.

I don't think an Eddy Arnold-style singer would make it today. He'd be more apt to go the American Idol route and play to that crowd, but when you take a look at the current C&W landscape, there is no room for a guy like Eddy. He's been purged and sent to the history books.

If you're not a fan of Eddy you probably wouldn't like Jim Reeves either...they were similar in that they were the ultimate laid-back Country superstars, bringing the "crooner" element from singers like Bing Crosby into the more raw arena or traditionalists like Hank Williams, Jimmy Rodgers, etc.

37. really, that whole crew of '70s singer-songwriters
Taylor, Chapin, Croce, Fogelberg, etc.

Awful sentimental lyrics, syrupy overproduced arrangements (take Cat's in the Cradle - that song might be tolerable with a piano or guitar accompaniment, but a sitar *and* and orchestra?), totally boring vocals. Yuck.
