Who is your celebrity hero?
Edited on Fri Sep-03-10 12:14 PM by Mr. Ected
...and how would you break the ice if you found yourself alone on an elevator with him/her?

Mine is author Wilbur Smith from South Africa. The man is a literary genius. If I ran into him on an elevator, I suppose I would clam up and have very, very little to say, fearing my admiration could frighten the poor little man.

1. Break the ice by drooling, mumbling, avoiding eye contact...

2. George Clooney
Smart guy with apparently no detectable ego. Devotes himself to good causes and tries to avoid the spotlight whenever possible. All the fame and fortune, yet appears to be remarkably grounded.

I've told me wife it's OK to cheat on me with George, as long as I get to meet him!

16. Me, too.
And, he funny, too. My friend calls him "The Good George" (as opposed to the Bad George who preceded President Obama.)

4. Hunter Thompson,George Carlin and Dennis Leary come to mind.
People like that, who are cynical of this old world, but can still see the humor.

I'd just say "Tell me what's going on in?"

6. Carl Sagan, and I'd break the ice by bashing his brains in.
Because he died long ago, and if he's in an elevator with me that mofo is a zombie!

THANKS A LOT!

18. LOL, Zombie Sagan!
He will tell you all about the billions of neural connections in your brain that he wants to snack on.

I second Carl Sagan. I bought "Cosmos" on DVD, and never tire of watching it. His books are also wonderful.

7. Katharine Hepburn was incredible---a lady, a rebel,
down to earth. She was still chopping her own firewood up until she died. And had the money to never do that.

If I was an elevator alone with her (when she was alive), I would do the silly gush about how she is my hero. At least that is honest if not original.

17. Knowing several...
that's pretty accurate. I used to work in the film industry in NYC and before that I worked down the block from the main ESPN studios in Bristol, CT. I met a lot of famous people in both gigs...they just want to be treated normally for the most part. The most awkward moment I can recall was when a fan hugged a former NFL player I know...no introduction, no conversation, just walked over and hugged him, then started talking. He was gracious but he looked seriously uncomfortable.

11. I'm a sci-fi fanboy and go to conventions, so I meet my fair share.
It's hard to stay cool because they're right there!

At Wizard-Con two weeks I met Avery Brooks and Michael Biehn. Both very cool and nice.

I guess I'd just tell him that I really admire and enjoy his work.

And then I'd leave him alone.

14. I don't have any 'heros' like that. The fact that most people do is FASCINATING to me.
Hence my need to KICK this thread.

19. I have people I respect.
But don't think of anyone as a hero, more like everyone is part of being the same hero when they think in the same way.

If you think in a better mantra of a hero, then at that moment you are part of that hero.

I absolutely adore him - a great actor and a wonderful person - aw heck, if I saw him on an elevator I would just thank him.
