2. No, but if that laser option had been presented a few years ago, I would
have done it. My doctor could only suggest total removal of female organ, a drastic procedure for a temporary problem that is usually over when you complete that part of your female life. A vague, non-gross explanation, but I think you understand. Good luck and good health to you.

3. hell, I'm ready for the whole part to be removed!
the gross part is this isn't laser (although that does qualify), its radiowaves - essentially microwaving! how is that for squicky?

yeah, I was hoping the end of all this was happening but it was getting worse, so I jumped on this when it was suggested

hope it go well for you, and brings you some relief.

I had a partial hysterectomy 3 years ago, and I was so glad, the pain every month was ridiculous (many large fibroids). Though I did get a really bad c-diff infection from all the antibiotics. That was terrible. Still, I'd do it all again, even the c-diff.

5. Sounds like a good option, actually
In the medical facility I worked in 10 years ago it wasn't even heard of, the alternative was hysterectomy. I think a lot of younger women especially benefit from something like this, and glad that you have the choice. Sounds like it's an outpatient procedure, and yes, pain meds are always good. Hope it helps, take care now! :)

7. yeah, I'm usually pretty up on this stuff too
but my reference books are a few years old - so I only learned of it earlier this summer

doesn't help that I rarely have insurance coverage so most medical things in the last 20 years were trauma, very acute but minor things, or concerned the squids. Been living with the "problem" for almost that long, then this spring started going just absolutely haywire - to the point of severe anemia. (talking 17 day long menses - 10 of them requiring me to stay in the damn house, if you know what I mean)

38. It hurts more than you think it will
Also, if you're under 40, count on it 'failing' (periods returning) within 3-5 years. I think mine did as soon as I turned 40, but between it and my ovarian cysts, my periods are much rarer, and when I have one, they're under a week in duration.

I had a very rare complication with mine, but that was due to my lowered immune response (kidney disease).

I was going to do that years ago, but they couldn't do it if you had fibroids...and then I got those.

So I just told my MD to take the whole mess out. I got an 8 week vacation!

I was never happier in my life to lose something!

I'm sure you will do well, but good luck anyway...

Next Friday?

27. Do it! (Don't read this if you're a male)
I had it done a year ago because of really bad bleeding every 7-14 days. My quality of life has improved beyond belief! The procedure itself is so simple and quick. You'll be a tiny bit sore (and groggy) for a day and that is it. No recovery time and NO MORE bleeding!
I can still tell when I'm cycling but the symptoms have diminished dramatically. One occasional cramp here and a mood swing there.
It's just unbelievable. I feel like I have my life back!

I'm sure you know if you want more children you should not do this and never have unprotected sex after this type of procedure. That would be really bad.

Just giving my 2 cents. Good luck!

33. That's not true though I thought it might be initially
I read up about it before having it done because that was my first fear.

Endometrial ablation does cause sterility, but it does not cause the symptoms of menopause. The procedure affects only the uterine lining, but menopause is caused by a depletion of eggs stored in the ovaries either due to natural processes or some sort of dysfunction. Ablation functions by causing scarring on the uterine lining, which prevents further bleeding. The sterility that follows the ablation procedure is caused by the destruction of the uterine lining, which makes the normal implantation of eggs impossible.

39. Ablations have no effect on the ovaries. Periods cease because the endometrium is destroyed
It is not early menopause. It is a desired outcome of the ablation - ending of periods.

I don't even know what condition this is done for. I have endometriosis, had a laparascopy to get cleaned out in the early 90s--so I know what a fucking trial lady parts can be when they act up. (I'm SO looking forward to menopause--but I'm only 41 and if I'm on the same track as my mom, it might be another 15 years. :()

42. My best friend...
had this done about three years ago, after having her periods for A MONTH! She too was afraid to leave the house! It was awful, she called me constantly to pick up tampons and pads for her, and was afraid to sleep for more than a few hours.

She was thrilled with the results! The pain wasn't too bad, and she got some good drugs.

She also went through menopause two years later, but I'm not qualified to know if this was a result of the procedure.

Menopause ROCKS! I went through it early, at 49, with almost no problems, like my Mom.I feel so free now!

Good luck to you, and please check back and let us all know how you're doing! I'll be looking for you!

54. If your doctor has not already done so, make sure you receive a uterine biopsy
prior to the procedure (not the day of, either this week or you already have had one)

This was a procedure myself and my GYN talked about. She stated that a uterine biospy was absolutely mandatory before the procedure. If you have had this in the past couple of months (in office) then it is usually good for several months so no worries.

I decided against ths procedure as there was no real guarantee this would help. So my decision was different only (there is not right or wrong one), and there were other factors specific to me that swayed me in this way.

Best thing I ever did. Procedure itself was a piece of cake. Some bleeding afterwards, very little pain. Once the bleeding finally stopped, I haven't had a period since. I still marvel sometimes at how free I feel now to travel, to make plans. To not have to organize every aspect of my life around "Will I be bleeding uncontrollably that day?"
