Why does Open Office take so long to open?
I started it during halftime of the last Superbowl, and it's still loading.

4. A PC actually
Depending on the sub-program and whatever else I have running, Open Office can take up to 30 seconds to fire up.

6. That might be your machine or your OS. Or maybe it's time for a fresh install of everything
to reduce clutter

I built several windows and/or linux boxes in the last few months: Open Office kicks up in just a few seconds on all of them

8. Hmmm... Took 40 seconds to open a new OO document, but...
it took a full minute to open a new WordPerfect doc. (That includes the the time I didn't notice Comodo asking about an online connection.)

And it took 2 seconds to open a new AbiWord document. (I'm back to Abiword as my favorite editor for most things.)

That's with a ton of fonts installed, and Opera and Thunderbird running, both with lots of stuff open and huge caches, mailboxes and stuff. And a whole bunch of other stuff running in the background. Just had a window pop up telling me "not enough virtual memory"

Maybe it's finally time to get over XP and get Win7 with a terrabyte of memory. Or whatever it will let me have.

2. The Cuneiform 0.1 Beta was a revolutionary box/OS bundle when it first came out
but maybe it's time to upgrade

7. What version are you using? I put Sun's NeoOffice on my Mac last year: it boots up
in about 5 or 6 seconds

9. Because it's not native software
Edited on Sun Sep-05-10 11:57 AM by blogslut
EDIT ADD: "Native" may not be the correct term but, Open Office is not integrated into the Operating System, MS Office is. In other words, MS Office is written to work with Windows. Open Office is cross platform software and must load its own DLLs and engine thingies every time you open it up.
