I just can't bring myself to watch it.
Food Inc.

I keep looking at it. It's right in front of me. But I can't push the play button.
I don't want to know. I just don't.
I try to avoid processed foods (except my cream of chicken soup)
I have cut out high fructose corn syrup (except when I go to the movies)
I'm trying to buy organic
I stopped eating at McDonald's
I even started using the "real" extra virgin olive oil. And yes, the "real" stuff costs three times as much.

I'm doing everything I can to avoid watching that movie so I don't have to know all the crap I've been putting into body, and I'm to watch it to find out that it's not enough.

1. you know,
you do what you can. Watch the movie, it isn't actually going to hurt you and knowlege is usually a good thing even if it is disturbing. But keep in mind (and this is the knowlege thing), there is another side or two to the story.

But the bottom line is you do what you can, what you can afford (in both money, ethics, and comfort). There are people all over the planet that would be grateful for a big mac and some corn syrup. So be grateful you can afford to take some positive steps in changing the system. And don't worry so much over what you can't do. Stay in the circle of influence and don't stress too much about the stuff in the circle of concern - as the trendy motivators were preaching a few years ago. I liked that one.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, there was a diagram with two circles one inside the other - the outside one is often quite big and it illustrates all the things you might be concerned about (the environment, the politics of the world, war, population, etc) and the inside was the circle of influence - those were the things you could actually do something about - putting in a small garden - buying local, voting or working a campaign, limiting the number of children etc etc. Stressing about the things that concern you inhibits your ability to actually act on the things you can influence. It was a diagram to illustrate and show the need to focus on the work that matters.

3. Sometimes knowledge is a good thing, and sometimes
it is better not to know every detail. I have not watched it, and will not watch it. I have a feeling that I already know more than I want to know, and there will probably be little that will shock me in that movie. But I can only do so much, and this is too big to avoid completely. Well, I have to die from something at some point. And until then, I have to eat to live. Do what you can and don't stress what you can't avoid. Isn't there a saying "ignorance is bliss"? I often wonder why I don't listen to that. Be blissful.

4. It was well done. Not as uncomfortable to watch as it is to hear. I'd watch it if I were you.
