Beer Snobs! Whaddaya think about canned micro brews? |
|
Lots more good breweries are starting to come out with their beers in cans. What do you think? I for one love it.

Glass, glass, glass, glass, glass. Never shall a beer imprisoned in metal pass my lips.

that the microbrew canning trend has started with the higher-end brews: Caldera, Green Flash, etc. etc., whose six-packs will run you up into the 11 to 12-buck range. I was skeptical at first, but have since tried several and found them as good as the bottled variety. If it's an environmental issue, I think they should go for it, but so far, here in the microbrew-saturated Pacific Northwest, the price tags people are seeing aren't helping the cause, especially when the other canned beers (Pabst, Hamm's, Elderly Teutonic, etc.) are 12 bucks for a whole rack. Granted, that's a whole rack of crap beer . . .

I love good beer in cans for days on the river: canoeing, tubing, etc. Safer, easier to tote the trash home (crush and stash in a bag vs carry heavy breakable glass).
But if I'm not on a river, then glass is best, for sure.

6. I like them for one reason... |
|
I can drink them at more places than I can bottles. Once I got over the prejudice, I ahd no problem drinking good beer out of a can.

The City is two and a half hours away by transit, each way -- maybe three all the way out to the park. That makes it a full day trip, which I normally only do on long weekends like this past one (the gathering was great, BTW). :(

But it is worth it. Both of those festies are awesome and free (and I will have some great beers too)

Station to station is an hour and a half on weekends. Tack on a trip all the way across SJ to the train, then all the way across SF to the park, and that's what you've got.

depends. Guinness in cans is ok, but bottles are always better.
Either way, I always pour my beer into a glass anyway, so it only matters if the taste is altered by the container.

18. The more the better. Cans are as good as bottles. |
|
In fact, with some brands like Czechvar and Heinken I wish they'd offer cans instead of green bottles. Czechvar has half liter cans in Europe under the name Budvar.

20. They do it so they can sell beer at events that will not allow glass containers, |
|
You basically covered that in post #6, but specifically, that is why they do it. And if it si a brewery that only makes 8000 barrels a year, selling an extra few hundred barrels' worth is a pretty big deal--that and the added visibility of their beer.
So on that level I am in favor of it; plus, if you are at an event that doesn't allow glass, which would you prefer: BudMIllerCoors or a tasty micro?
For the record: I'm pretty sure I know your answer already! :)
