Poll question: The least funny Python |
|
Oh, sure, they were all funny in the show and two of the three movies. But who among them is the one least so, IYHP?
I reluctantly add Terry Gilliam to this list, knowing he'll get votes cause he just did the cartoons and "it's only a model." But what I'm wondering which one of the Pythons delivered the least line-for-laugh punch ratio in his performances, possibly even, at times, falling into that pit of trying to be funny, which is far worse than not being funny at all. Reasons why you think they're not funny will be enlightening and conducive to a civil discourse.
Oh, I suppose I'll also entertain discussion in this thread of who is the most talented of the troupe, too, but I'm personally feeling more inclined toward character assassination at this moment.

I can easily think of moments where each of them were funny. I almost want to pick Mr. Jones but his women were very, very funny.
OK, I think Palin is a very talented actor but laugh for laugh the others may pull ahead of him. But he had such a great solo career.
As a performer, Gilliam kind of sucked but that wasn't his function.
I will not speak ill of the dead, besides Graham Chapman was damned funny.
OK, I know the answer.
Neil Innes.

2. I think they're all fucking funny, on and off stage, but I'll go with Gilliam |
|
just because his role wasn't so much about being funny as an actor.

7. Same here...it kind of skews the poll overall. |
|
Funniest / least funny Python whose primary role was to perform? That's a completely different poll.

4. All I know is that Palin and Idle still have the power to reduce me to a giggling pile of flesh. |

5. Just never found Idle to be as funny as the rest. |
|
Gilliam's not really an actor and some of his cartoons left me  Chapman's my favorite, followed closely by Cleese. Jones and Palin are exceptional comedic actors.
Eric Idle just wasn't as funny IMO.

6. I always liked how Chapman took the least funny role in "Holy Grail" and stole the show with it |
|
I just bought & watched some Python videos recently. Cleese is by far the most gifted, meaning most controlled, physical comedian among them. But they're all so good, you really have to look for it.

9. I refuse to even consider that one of these guys was even marginally unfunny |
|
I reject this poll, thusly.
