You: Single again. Would you date a lawyer? |
|
Assume that you are interested in dating someone and lawyer was also interested.
Show your work.
(and I'm not trolling for date date. Mrs. AA has instituted a very strict "no datng" policy on me even before our wedding day)

1. If I were single again? Depends on what kind of lawyer. |
|
A corporate-sucking tax lawyer whose entire job is to find loopholes in environmental laws for oil companies to exploit? Probably not.
A nonprofit family lawyer who's standing up for abused women and kids who can't afford "real" lawyers? Hell yes, in a heartbeat.
All other lawyers--maybe. Just depends on whether they're using their powers for good or for evil. :)

6. Me: Single currently. Dates lawyers. |
|
I'm not going to lie...I was raised in the upper class, I have certain lifestyle expectations. Those require money. I'm not ever going to become rich in low-level banking, moonlighting in poli. comm. and activism. That's my calling in life, not the banking, the activism. (Seriously if I had or could find a job doing that professionally...bub-bye bank.)
I find lawyers tend to have those same lifestyle expectations, same ideals and they make the money to afford them. We tend to match well, I need a partner who shares my ideals and is willing to bear the majority of our shared lifestyle cost; those that I have dated really liked the fact that I'm the guy in the street with the bullhorn yelling about poverty and gay-marriage and the environment...things they believe in, things they can't do...like stage sit-ins.
I don't exclusively date lawyers, but I have dated lawyers.

|
Fancy, stupid crap, super premium groceries? A big house and exotic vacations might be nice, but certainly not a requirement for who someone should date. Please tell me your kidding. I hate to break it to you as well, but the type of lawyer that you say you would date isn't the kind of lawyer that makes all the money to do those things.

16. I didn't say it was a reason to date them. |
|
I suggested it made us compatible in terms of what we wanted out of life. You know, shared desires are an important part of any relationship. I don't want kids (couldn't have them if I wanted to.) so similar views on lifestyle are pretty much the key thing here.
I date all sorts of people though.

Most lawyers are NOT rich -- just ordinary small business people. And the ones who are rich are probably people you don't want to hang out with.

You haven't dated many lawyers if that's what you think. Lawyers are regular people too. I know a few...including my brother in law and all his lawyer friends. He's a criminal atty, mostly deals with drug cases and a few murders. He drives a Toyota pick up truck. Comfortable, but certainly not rich. He's super liberal and great person.

Some lawyers are wonderful people. Some are assholes. They (we) are just like any other group of people -- you have to look at the individual.

Dating a lawyer isn't much different than dating one that isn't. If it's that someone detests the profession, well that's fine until you need one I suppose. I think much of the disdain for being in a relationship with an attorney is the worry that any discussion or argument is going to turn into a nightmare of litigious proportions. That's in the personality, not the profession.

33. wealthy ones at that! Are we not all "people"? BTW... |
|
"are people too" has always struck me as "worthy to live". Sad. We are all children on this planet and should try to encourage..dare I say love one another.
Love is reckless; not reason.
Reason seeks a profit.
Love comes on strong, consuming herself, unabashed. Yet, in the midst of suffering, Love proceeds like a millstone, hard surfaced and straightforward.
Having died of self-interest, she risks everything and asks for nothing.
Love gambles away every gift God bestows.
Without cause God gave us Being; without cause, give it back again. ~~Rumi
