I mean why go through the hassle of a keeping a record of the names of the asses that you've kicked.

4. It's just prudent to keep a list of the people whose asses you've kicked in case you get a letter
like Hey buddy! Remember me? We sure had good times back then! Why don't you meet me at the corner of Dark Alley and Back Street for a beer tomorrow at midnight? Your old pal &c&c

If your memory is as bad as mine, you'll want to check the list

7. Well, once you have a sufficiently long list of named asses kicked, you don't
have to bother kicking any more. You just provide references...
