Question for people who cook. I have this friend who made gravy in a pot a couple moths ago and...

this friend put the leftover gravy in the fridge, with foil on top. Now tonight, he wants to use the pot again to make some delicious au gratin potatoes, but he went to pull the pot out of the fridge and wash it and there was a little mold growing on the remains of the gravy. Gross, I know, but he's a live-alone bachelor and you know how that goes.

So the question is: is it safe to wash out this pot that had some mold in it, and then use it, or should it be tossed?

A quick couple of answers would be appreciated, my friend is hunnnggggry!

4. if I threw away every container that got moldy food in it I wouldn't have any dishes left.
if in doubt use some comet or a tiny bit of bleach to soak the pan. Plenty of HOT water and dish soap will do just fine, though.

Penicillin
Tempeh
Gorgonzola and brie
wines
etc

not all molds are bad, just some and they can be washed away

it is good to be careful, my late husband died from complications of food poisoning, but mold isn't usually a problem

8. I think you'd want to use really hot water and maybe a smidge of
bleach (but rinse super-well and dry the pan!) if you've any weird feelings about "spores". I mean, "If your friend has..."

Pots are pretty resilient. If it were one of those chintzy Glad not-tupperware deals, I'd say toss it, though.

mold wont go in metal
it will grow on stuff on metal
whatever dont eat what he cooks

Meatcake isn't made in a day.

Perhaps the worst thing that can happen is to reach into the refrigerator and come out with something that you cannot identify at all.

You literally do not know what it is. Could be meat, could be cake.

Usually, at a time like that, I'll bluff. "Honey, is this good?" "Well, what is it?" "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like...meatcake!"

27. You are kidding, right? Pulling our legs? Throw out a pot?
No wonder too many people have astronomical credit card debt and no savings. Hell, not only would I just wash the pot, I might just scrape the mold off and use the rest of the gravy if it were me.
