Today's College Football Tailgate Thread
There are some great games on the schedule today, including four games between ranked teams:

22 Georgia at 24 South Carolina
12 Miami at 2 Ohio State
17 Florida State at 10 Oklahoma
18 Penn State at 1 Alabama

A few other rivalry games as well: Michigan at Notre Dame, BYU at Air Force, Iowa State at Iowa.

So who does your team play today? What games are you looking forward to?

I wish it weren't on at the same time as the OU game, because I'd like to be able to watch it more closely. Miami and tOSU both looked good last week, and I'm sure both will be geared up today :)

I know it was only Toledo, but they looked good. And Iowa is definitely good, but they won't have played a particularly tough schedule either, so who knows ... Anyway, I know I'll be watching--if Arizona can find a way to beat Iowa, then this could be a pretty special year for Stoops and Co.

6. Florida might be in trouble against South Florida today
Edited on Sat Sep-11-10 11:48 AM by fishwax
Florida got the ball first and went three and out. South Florida got the ball at their own 5 yard line and put together a 95-yard touchdown drive that took more than 10 minutes off the clock. Pretty impressive.

10. maybe Hawkins will finally come through this year
Who would've thunk, when he left Boise State five years ago, that the Broncos would have two undefeated seasons and two BCS bowl victories while Hawkins would go four years without a winning record. When CU hired him I thought he'd have more success than he has. But maybe this will be the year ...

16. I don't see the big deal, myself
Assuming we're talking about wearing a jersey to the game or to a watch party and not wearing the jersey to dinner and a movie on some random Tuesday evening.

I've seen this debate on message boards over the last couple of years, and it's always puzzled me a bit. Maybe it looks a little silly on most people, but it's a football game--who cares? I'd rather see someone in a jersey than listen to someone complain about how adults shouldn't wear jerseys :)

But I'm a t-shirt guy, personally.

47. 41-7 now, and Ponder just threw his 2nd INT
You certainly weren't alone in picking Florida State--I think the line moved from 8.5 down to 7 over the last week, so there was a lot of money going on Florida State.

I'll admit I was nervous about this game after the lackluster performance against Utah State last week, but I had two reasons for hope: 1st, Stoops's teams have dominated at home against ranked teams. I read some stat earlier this week that when his teams have been favored by less than ten at home, he's won by an average of more than 30 points. (Stoops has only lost twice at home, both times to unranked teams.) Second, everyone was touting Ponder as a Heisman candidate, and Owen Field has been where Heisman hopes go to die since Stoops has been here.

As I type this OU just kicked a field goal to make it 44-7 :woohoo:

77. OU looked decent ...

FSU looked horrible.

I think OU's secondary has a lot to learn and is going to end up ripped apart eventually.

Flemming is a bright spot. The O-Line is far better than it was last year, but the defense, overall, is worse.

Not OU's year unless they get really lucky, which means they go into OU-TX weekend and come out of it on top. After that, if they do well, they just have to maintain.

I guess what I'm saying is that this game didn't resolve all my doubts resulting from last week.

54. I'll be back later
NASCAR is on right now. Arizona State is playing Northern Arizona later on but the game won't even be on cable which I don't have. They were forced to schedule Portland State (who placed last week) which is why they're playing back-to-back FBS teams. The reason is San Jose State backed out to play Wisconsin for twice the payout. They had to schedule Idaho State last year because BYU backed out to play Oklahoma.

Anyways, I'm a little worried about the game. A lot of the NAU players are from around here and get a boost playing in front of their hometown. Plus they always play ASU tough and I think NAU has a good team this year.

ASU stays ahead, but not quite far enough ahead to be comfortable. But I think it's been a good game for ASU, because they haven't (that I've seen) gotten comfortable or careless. They're playing hard too -- just scored another TD to make it 34-20.

63. The Hawkeyes looked business like dismantling Iowa State
Not sure how to gauge this one - Hawks were sure hitting on all cylanders.
Iowa State showed some spark last year. I have to think they are not the worst team out there ......

76. 14-7 USC now -- 4th quarter still remaining
I haven't seen the whole game (been flipping back and forth to a few other games), but UVA seems to be shooting themselves in the foot a lot.
