1. Lou Reed - "Dirt"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyb6lGh5-To

It's been a long time, since I've spoken to you
was it the right time
Your current troubles, and you know, they'll get much worse
I hope you know how much you enjoy them
You're a pig of a person, If there's a justice in this world
hey, how about that
Your lack of conscience and your lack of morality
well, more and more people know all about it

Do you remember that song by a dude named Bobby Fuller
It went like this:
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

We sat around the other night, me and the guys
trying to find the right word
That would best fit and describe
you people like that
That no principle has touched, no principle's baptized
how about that
They'd eat shit and say it tasted good
if there was some money in it for them

Hey, you remember that song about this guy from Texas
Whose name was --- Bobby Fuller
I'll sing it for you, it went like this:
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

You're just dirt
You're just dirt, The only word for you is dirt
That's the only word that -

- hurt, You're just dirt
That's all you're worth - cheap, cheap dirt
You know they call it -
Cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, uptown dirt
you're just - cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, uptown dirt
You're just dirt - nothing but - cheap uptown dirt
That's all you're worth - It's just - cheap, cheap, uptown dirt
That's all you're worth now (cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, uptown dirt)
You're just dirt (cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap uptown dirt)
(Cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, uptown dirt)
(Cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, uptown dirt)
(Cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, uptown dirt)

5. That was the first thing I though of...
fantastic arrangement and production (Richard Robinson really made up for the production faults with the first solo record)
The last album where Lou seemed to give a damn about his vocals.

3. Still the greatest band to ever come out of El Paso
I'm a member of the facebook group: The Bobby Fuller Four should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This one was of course written by the great Sonny Curtis. Fuller did a little bit of recording at Petty Studio in Clovis, but I don't think ( not positive though) this was done there.

4. I also snuck a reference to this one into a song I wrote:
my longest one ever....(so far).... this is the very last, concluding chorus; (the whole thing is 6 and 1/3 notebook pages long, and no words of any of the choruses are repeated except for the first line of each of 'em). I'll often sneak in a line or title of an old song in mine (if they fit the mood/story etc.) just to see if people catch it. This one's called The Omission of Mercy (itself a play on the title of the Motels' song, Mission of Mercy)

The omission of mercy, such a typical story
Breakin' rocks in the hot sun, at the bottom of the quarry
Better recant your testimony and haul ass
Surreptitiously clean out your desk
And avert your eyes, if you can
While they cart off the dead in their lorries.

6. When I was little kid,I really did hear it as "a grape skin rots in the hot sun"...
I was familiar with 'A Raisin in the Sun"
and thought a grape skin was a similar image of loss and despair.
I was a weird kid.

7. One of the great songs from a golden period
and if you don't have time to waste-don't bother poking around all the info regarding Bobby Fuller's
still-unexplained death. Truly a mystery.
