2. Reinstall everything ....ditch Adobe Reader (use foxit) Add a little Memory. |
|
If you have an HP printer..DON'T install all the crap on the disk like the "Customer participation program" or "Shop at HP"...it's just a pile of shit that drags down your speed. Increase your page file to 2 1/2 times your Memory. (1 gig memory..2 1/2 gig page file)

Try this first, a clean install and a little extra memory. The only reason to get a new computer is if it not doing what you need it to anymore (or flames are coming out the vents) If you are doing a fresh install its a great time to get a new hard drive that and a some more ram might get you two or more years out of the machine for about $100.

No room in case, p.s. barely adequate for starters.
Customer wanted graphics upgrade-guess what? No PCIE slot-just shiny solder traces where socket should have been. Luckily I had a PCI GeForce 8400 card available.

8. Make sure your computer is connected to the UHF socket on the TV. |
|
That was the advice printed back in 1981 for Sinclair ZX81 computer owners in the UK.
The computer had a 625 line UHF modulator - that allowed output on a standard TV. Problem was back then there were a number of television sets still working that operated on the old 405 line VHF system - and hence a picture could not be displayed on TV sets that only worked on 405 lines... and dual standard sets had to be on UHF to get the picture. Incidentally, the old 405 VHF system was switched off in 1984, so these older TV sets still worked OK on 405 at the same time the ZX81 came out.

13. I wouldn't recommend spending on an SSD for a 5-year old machine |
|
I don't know when SSD slots first appeared on motherboards for the consumer market, but on a five year old board they would likely be first generation SATA if they exist at all. Better to buy a newer board with support for SATA 3 or 6Gbps. Be prepared to open your wallet.
