Beta fish observation. Male hangs motionless for hours. Female swims like someones chasing her |
|
I like these fish. They really seem to almost interact and look at me

Though I have let them "visit" a couple of times.
Their names are Phish (boy) and Ghoxi (girl)
The second name spells fish too.
gh as in tough
o as in women
xi as in anxious

2. I used to breed them in early High School. |
|
I bred Reds, then Red Cambodian's I did ok getting them to successfully mate and lay eggs. After they hatching I had trouble with bringing the fry to maturity.
I thought about keeping another one but my wife thinks it is cruel to keep them in captivity.

(and you would, I imagine, know this) if you keep them in something around 10 gallons, that's pretty much what they're used to. From what I understand, they live in "puddles," more or less.
But I'm not an ichthyologist, nor do I have to maintain marital bliss :)

4. "Captivity"? What are they going to do in the wild...walk up on the beach |
|
and eventually start a civilization?
They are probably happy just to get food regularly and not get eaten by bigger fish.

you mean compared to those barren coffee cup size bowls they have them in at the pet store?
Both of ours seemed to be completely "liberated" in their larger abodes when we brought them home.
The female especially seemed captivated by every little shiny rock and her simple plastic plant.
