Why did the universe, FSM, God, whoever make it so that when we're young, we're healthy and stupid

and when we're old, we're smart and have all kinds of ailments?

Disclaimer: If you're young, I'm not saying YOU are stupid, I'm saying I was.

1. I think it's just a matter of experience
I actually had more of an ability to learn from books when I was younger than I do now. But I think life itself is the greatest teacher and the longer you stick around the wiser you will get.

2. ...and how about the fact that no one ever listens to the advice of those who went before us?
We all have to learn life lessons through experience.

Stove is hot.

Pavement is hard and scratchy.

4. Youth is wasted on the young
If youth is wasted on the young, then retirement is wasted on the old.

7. If we weren't a little wiser with age, there'd be no reason to keep us around.
It's pretty clear that even primitive man cared for the elderly in times of scarce resources.

8. The only answer I can conceive as possibly correct is...
philosophy.

Most philosophical musings come from the realization that the way things work in life make no sense at all. Philosophers, both professional and amateur, think of things just like that and wonder why as well.

Otherwise, I'm just as lost as you are on that one.

9. Jeez, God, I haven't the faintest idea. But you're wrong about one thing;
We do NOT get smarter as we get older.Yeah, we recognize the things we should look out for, indeed, but that does not mean we listen to any any advice, even our own.

11. because you'd not do all those wonderful things you'll regret otherwise
then you'd just be old with no crazy stories to tell the young'uns as the senility kicks in. and how boring that'd be...
