1. Cemetaries can be fascinating |
|
from a historic and artistic perspective. Some of those look very old and the monuments are beautiful. How far back does that cemetary date to? I'm sure it's much older then anything we'd find in the States. All the more reason to love Europe. Thanks for the pictures MissHoneychurch!

2. This cemetery started in1828 |
|
because the old cemetery in Frankfurt got too small. So the Main Cemetery isn't actually THAT old. The old one dates back to the 15th century.

3. Beautiful. Cemeteries are a fascinating peek into history. |
|
One of my all time favorites is the cemetery at West Point. It's gorgeous and very serene. And BTW, we have many old cemeteries in the US, some tiny ones alongside country roads in New England that date to the 1600's.

beautiful old cemetery.
I am fascinated by old graves and the sculptures some of them have as a grave stone.

I was in a group, so I couldn't really chose where to walk. But I want to go back and just wander around and have my camera ready.

I have a fascination with cemeteries.
We have a very interesting one in Key West. Everyone is buried above ground.

I love cemeteries. I live near one,,,well - nothing like that one. A small, neighborhood graveyard. Still, it feels peaceful to me.
Thanks for this tour. :)

I love old cemeteries. Your photos remimd me a lot of Dan Westfall's work -- I have a collection of his photos hanging in my dining room. http://danwestfall.com/gallery.aspx

I guess there are only so many ways one is able to take a picture of a sculpture.
His work looks interesting. Thanks for the link

17. British Cemetery in India |
|
In India, (I think Calcutta)there was a British church and cemetery. The markers had birth dates, arrival dates and death dates. The arrival and death dates were mere weeks, sometimes days apart. Disease took them that quickly.

Yes, cemeteries are fascinating. My dad is buried a few steps away from Thomas Mann.
