How come stuff like this never happens to me?
Edited on Tue Sep-14-10 03:10 PM by Brigid
On "Pawn Stars" the other night, a woman brought in a brooch in the shape of a spider she said had belonged to her grandmother. The woman said she didn't like spiders and wanted to get rid of the brooch. Rick examined the item and said, "Do you know what you have here?" The woman said she did not. Rick then informed her that the brooch was a Faberge, and ended up giving her $15,000 for it. I wonder if my cousin still has our grandmother's jewelry box around somewhere . . .

1. I think the favorite one I ever saw was a guy who brought in a blanket and it turned out to be an
extremely rare Indian blanket worth $300,000. The appraiser was so excited because it was so historically valuable, and the guy was an older gentleman who was so moved he almost cried. I almost cried watching it.

2. Too bad I missed that one.
I'll have to watch for a rerun.

3. My problem is that I would want to keep it. I'm one of those people who tend to
hang on to stuff because it was family's.

4. They paid $15K for it cause the cameras were running.
As a rule of thumb, only go to pawnbrokers while someone's filming a reality show about them.

5. Too bad the woman had no idea what it was.
Then she could have gone to a jeweler and had it appraised properly.

6. One "Antiques Roadshow" had a young guy pull from a bag piece after piece of 17th C. silver!

Extremely high value!

My "best" was buying for a dollar at a church sale a first-edition "Jaws" worth apparently hundreds!

7. I found it odd that it was in a box with a Faberge label.
Yet she was clueless.
