Which countries have you visited
and which ones do you wish to visit?

I visited:
Most of the European countries (OK, I have an advance by living in Germany)
Ukraine (yes, it is a European country as well, just not one that is normally on one's radar)
Iran (I would go there in a split second again)
USA (more than once)

I wanna visit
New Zealand
Canada
Egypt
Japan
Ireland
Also what I would love to do is hop on the TransSibirian train and take it from Berlin to Peking. The landscapes passing must be amazing

1. Not as many as you but

Australia (well, technically I live here but I did visit before we moved here -Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Tasmania)
United Kingdom (England, Scotland, briefly Wales)
Czechoslovakia (OK, OK, in transit for six hours in an airport with nothing much to do). It was the year that communism collapsed in that country but unfortunately I was only eight so I wasn't paying attention
Cyprus (again in transit)
India (again in transit)
Brunei (small country but beautiful and highly underrated. Very cheap rates for 4 star hotels which actually come quite close to being luxury hotels despite only having a 4 star ratings)
Ireland (Dublin)
Canada (Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City, Niagara Falls Kitchener)
United States (California, Washington State,Maine, Minnesota, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, New Jersey, Kentucky)
Thailand
Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru mainly)
Singapore (lived there for ten years)
Indonesia (Jakara and Bataam)

Ireland 3x
Scotland
Wales
France
Italy
Greece
Canada

US of course. Born and raised.

I don't think about traveling too far these days: two dogs, two horses, three cats, hubby and lots of commitments. I'm thrilled to get on a plane and get away for 4 or 5 days to anywhere.

Of course with all those animals traveling is hard. I understand that. And the U.S. has so much to offer, it is almost like visiting other countries.

6. I did
I was there through Binghamton University studying theater and writing. I was at the City University in London for classes but we went to performances from the National Theater to pub theater 3-4 nights a week and traveled all over the country every weekend. I was quite an experience.

You are right about the US. My last job had me traveling several times a year so I got to see a lot of it including Alaska. It's an amazing country. There are a lot of places I'd like to visit again.

9. What an experience!!
I did internships in Glasgow, Scotland and in Savannah, GA. Also I was a nanny in Charlotte, NC. All three experiences made me stronger a person than I was before. Looking beyond one's own nose is for me one crucial point in understanding other cultures. A lot of the problems we have these days could be solved if everyone spends some time in a foreign country.

Places in the U.S. I still wanna see are the Dakotas (I wanna see the Plains) or Washington State. The nature is what fascinates me.

7. The TransSiberian train would be alot of fun I bet
Actually I like your entire list. Where you've been and where you'd like to go.

I live not too far from the Canadian border, so I've been there many times. (Quebec only though). I also have been to Mexico and Israel/West Bank. On the Israel trip, I had a 3 hour layover in Brussels, Belgium so I suppose I can say I've 'been' to Europe, though I technically didn't 'visit'. Would have loved to, had I more time.

20. Charleston is beautiful. I live just outside Charleston, in Summerville.
I like Summerville better, less crime, or the appearance of less crime. But Charleston is the city. So much history and true beauty to behold. And a nightlife that I really can't see anyone topping, even with the 2am closing time. Then the beaches aren't far from there. Folly. Isle of Palms. This really is a great place to live, if you have to live in the South. Although, I'm not one to be hating on the Southern states. But I do have a hard time imagining a better place to be in the South. I really do like the area. I like my town. I like being only minutes from the famous Battery. I like the fact that Charleston wast't burned in the Civil War (civil, lol). I like, in a strange way, I cannot continue...

during my internship. It was one of the best times in my life. So I totally understand what you say. I enjoyed being able to drive to the Atlantic in less than half an hour. The history of the town. Its people.

You won't hear me say a bad word about the South. The people I met were friendly and welcoming and wonderful. And the food is delicious.

I prefer Savannah over Charleston, but that is me.

and ever since then, I've been itching to go. I'm a sucker for travel shows, but I've visited enough places to know that the show could never to the location justice. Assuming this is also the case for Iran, the architecture alone must be a feast for the eyes. The people seem very nice too.

As a child, our family took a cruise of the Caribbean in the early 70s. I'd be hard pressed to name the islands today (I was 11 or 12 at the time.) And a couple of the Texas/Mexico border towns in the late 70s. Other than that, economics has kept me pretty well in this state most of the time.

Then again, Texas is a "whole other country" anyway ;)

My impression was that it was just a town for factories.

I was just outside Mohringen, a little town surrounded by farms. I imagine by now Stuttgart has grown so all the farms are developed into suburbs.

Tubingen was a nice little drive, well worth visiting.

59. Born in Karachi, Pakistan when
it was till India.

I've been to Australia (I took my first baby steps there)

I lived in Tokyo for four years in the 1940s with my family when my dad was in the Army.

I visited England as an adult.

I'd like to visit Ireland, and I'd also like to visit my sister in New Zealand someday.

My family lived in Germany for about 17 years and made traveling a priority.

As for which countries I'd like to see - I'd like to go back to several I've been to already, such as Germany, Greece and Egypt, plus Scotland (I've been to the UK, but only to England) and Iran - assuming the political situation were more congenial. I have a lot of interest in early Middle Eastern history and archaeology, from the Sumerians and Elamites to the Zoroastrian kings of Persia and would love to see some of the archaeological sites in person. I might also like to see some of Central Asia, but I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be with that. Maybe it'd be worth facing an organized tour for something like that.

67. Canada and Hawai'i
I was born in the U.S.A. and so am not a visitor; obviously, I missed Hawai'i's independent era by a century or so.

68. My list:
Edited on Thu Sep-16-10 09:57 AM by distantearlywarning
Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Canada, England, Scotland, Germany, France. Also been nearly everywhere in the U.S. including Hawaii (but not Alaska or the deep South).

Going back to Paris this Christmas because my husband's never been.

Places I'd like to go and maybe will get to in the next decade: Africa, Egypt, Italy, Norway. My absolute dream vacations are one of those luxury African safaris, and a first-class trip on the Orient Express from Paris to Istanbul. This trip looks really fun, too: http://www.bharatonline.com/rajasthan-tours/camel-safari.html

73. Lived in Italy and Germany for a year each, saw parts of France & Switzerland
All, unfortunately, before the age of five (~50 years ago), so I don't recall much.

I've never been out of the country since.
