1. I liked Season 1 til the last 4-5 episodes. About the 7th time his daughter escaped & got re-caught |
|
I realized it's the kind of show that works if spread out over 9 months of viewing, but doesn't really hold up to a marathon sit-thru. At some point the massively supercompetent supervillains become too silly and the spy agency riddled with moles loses my respect as heroes.

2. Well it will fade. It won't lead you on into a sucker-punch like LOST did. |

3. We obsessively watched the first few seasons (on dvd) then caught up with the show |
|
as it aired. It was good for another season or so, then I got really bored. But yeah, totally agree on the first few seasons.

4. I got into it in the 4th season, when it got really silly. |

First a train crashes, with a suitcase missing.
Then you find out the suitcase has some experimental computer chip.
Then the bad guy captures the Secretary of Defense and tries to execute him on a streaming Internet video.
Then you find out the chip controls all the country's nuclear power plants (wtf?)
Then the bad guy makes them all start a meltdown process.
Then, after saving all but one of the power plants, Jack Bauer chases after the bad guy for a few episodes.
Then the bad guy commands an Air Force pilot to shoot down Air Force one, which he does without any difficulty (again, wtf?).
Then the bad guy steals a nuclear missile from an armored convoy.
Then the bad guy arms said nuclear missile and launches it from a mobile launcher towards Los Angeles. We're not supposed to question the fact that one of the power plants was near Los Angeles, and if the bad guy's plan had worked, LA would have been completely evacuated and/or irradiated to begin with.
It was like the show was trying to top itself all throughout the episode, and it just got more and more ridiculous and unbelievable.

It got a little silly at times, but every season had something going for it. Personally, I thought Season 5 and Season 8 were the best ones.
