Question for mods and long time DUers |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-16-10 03:54 PM by Green_Lantern
Why are some OPs archived?
Even newer topics are archived yet some aren't.

because I noticed during searches that posts in fast moving forums get archived quickly (maybe a function of what page it gets to???)

2. It depends on the forum ... |
|
Some forums have a lot of topics, and there's a lot of conversations. The more topics that get posted, the faster they get archived.
There's just so much room for active topics, and when that space is used up, into the archives they go...
I've seen topics archived after only 2 or 3 days. Some quieter forums, the topics are active for literally years...
So, it depends.

7. Is it mainly a single topic wth dual posts? |
|
For example two topics about Sarah Palin shooting wolves can be carved down to one post.

8. Sometimes those will be combined into one thread. |
|
But I don't think that has anything to do with how soon they get archived. In fact, doing that kind of combining might well prolong the life of the thread, since it becomes a lot bigger which might well bring it more attention and more posts.
Greater amounts of conversation will prolong the life of a thread.

12. Every forum has 20 actives pages of 80 topics each. |
|
So that's 1600 active topics. Once a topic reaches #1601 on the list, it's archived. In GD, that can happen really fast. Usually it seems to take 2-3 days, but during the elections in 2008 I think it was less than 4 hours from top of page 1 to bottom of page 20.
