1. Neal Peart is an incredible drummer. He's almost as good as Phil Collins.
All of the best bands had fabulous drummers.

2. Yeah, I'm really looking forward to YYZ being performed
Has the most awesome drum solos. My stepfather is a drummer so I do have a real appreciation for the skills there...

3. I saw Collins and Thompson perform SIMULTANEOUSLY!!!
They were on a see-saw type device with platforms on each end holding their drum sets. They alternated between playing in unison and playing off of each other. That solo (duet?) ran a good 20 minutes. Man was I blown away.

That was at the Capital Center in DC (it has since been renamed after some mega-corporation as they all have) and at the beginning of the concert I blew up a condom to about three feet long, tied it off, and sent it off into the crowd. It was still bouncing around by the end of the concert. I saw it way up at the top of the bleacher seats on either side and it flew overhead a few times during the concert. That's a fun thing to do.

5. FYI- the Capital Center is long gone
It was blown up a few years back to make way for a mall...The Verizon Center in DC took its place.

44. Bummer. I saw the Grateful Dead there also - that was a fucking boring concert.
Two days later (or so), I saw them at Merriweather Post Pavilion. TOTALLY different concert!!! On the downbeat, the whole lawn was dancing. There were milk crate barricade islands all around the pavilion with 10' mounts for directional microphones. People were walking around with telephoto lenses. This is a place that would practically strip search you for a fucking Barry Manilow concert. A woman I worked with said a guy near her had a milk crate concession stand set up with two fluorescent green bowling pins that each said "POT". A guy came down the aisle shortly after I arrived with his hand up yelling, "HITS! Anyone doing HITS?" There was about a 6' cloud made up of everything that can be smoked covering the entire grounds. Yet the only arrest all night was one VW station wagon from Oregon packed with pills.

I can't wait, I have not seen them in about 15 years.

FYI, here is a link to a great Rush website that lists all of the shows on this tour and the playlists for the shows.

I think that's their most famous song. On the other hand, it'll be Friday, so they might play their other big hit, "Workin for the weekend".

26. The interesting thing about this tour is that they are performing an album in its entirety..
...and I don't think of "Moving Pictures" as the kind of album a band usually performs -- it's not a Rock Opera or Concept Album (i.e. "Tommy", "The Wall", "Paradise Theater", "Bat Out of Hell").

I envy you at two levels. First, from what I've been told, they put on a great show. Second, I just read that Robert Plant turned down another reunion tour invite with Led Zeppelin -- so you will get to see your favorite band, but I will have to keep waiting.

34. Saw them last night in Pittsburgh!
Fantastic show, one of the best I've ever been to, and I've been to quite a few Rush concerts over the years.

Highlights:

-the videos prior to each half of the concert are unbelievably funny. Rush is known for producing clever concert videos where they do a bit of acting and comedy, but these particular bits really take the cake. I laughed my ass off. There's also a cute one after the concert while everybody is leaving.

-Moving Pictures in its entirety. Last night the entire arena knew all the words and sang along passionately to every song. Doesn't get much better than that.

--Neil Peart's superhuman drum solo.

You also will be pleased to know that Subdivisions is in fact on the set list. :-)

Actually, the only bad thing about last night was that some drunk idiot spilled half his beer on me and then stood there apologizing pathetically for 5 minutes while blocking my view. Hopefully that won't happen to you. :)

Anyway, have a great time at the show!

39. Forgot about another highlight from last night...
A guy sitting a few rows in front of me who had a shirt that had a picture of Rush (the band) and Rush (Limpballs, the blowhard) side by side. The Rush (the band) picture said, "Good Rush". The Rush (Limpballs) picture said, "Bad Rush".

The guy was getting high-fives and thumbs-up from everybody around him.

The other funny part is that he was a *huge* guy, probably a bodybuilder or maybe a guy who does a LOT of hard manual labor, well over 6 ft tall and built like a brick shithouse. His biceps were bigger than my head. I told him that he probably didn't have too many problems with conservative assholes giving him shit on the street when he went out wearing that shirt. He just grinned an evil little grin and nodded.

40. To me, The Larger Bowl is
Edited on Fri Sep-17-10 05:41 PM by chillspike
a great response to the "we're all born equal" fantasy conservatives are still holding onto and use as a reason to kill programs that help people.

Just perfect lyrics, with not an once of the old capitalist, Ayn Rand influence from Peart. He's grown up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QicJ_zQjeWs

"The Larger Bowl (A Pantoum)"

If we're so much the same like I always hear
Why such different fortunes and fates?
Some of us live in a cloud of fear
Some live behind iron gates

Why such different fortunes and fates?
Some are blessed and some are cursed
Some live behind iron gates
While others only see the worst

Some are blessed and some are cursed
The golden one or scarred from birth
While others only see the worst
Such a lot of pain on the earth

The golden one or scarred from birth
Somethings can never be changed
Such a lot of pain on this earth
It's somehow so badly arranged

Somethings can never be changed
Some reasons will never come clear
It's somehow so badly arranged
If we're so much the same like I always hear

Some are blessed and some are cursed
The golden one or scarred from birth
While others only see the worst
Such a lot of pain on the earth

46. Have pity! I haven't seen them in years!!
I have been RUSH fan since I was a sophomore in high school. And I graduated in 1985! "Subdivisions" is the song that first turned me on to them!

The last time I saw them was prior to 1998. I think they were doing the "Evening with Rush" thing. It was just Neil, Alex and Geddy and no opening act. The location was Great Woods in Mansfield, Mass.(it used to be called the Tweeter Center, don't know what it is called now. Saw Jimmy Buffet there as well)

I just can't go see them this time around. I would just love to see Alex pull out his signature white Gibson ES-335. Lot of history in that instrument!

Have an awesome time TZ!! Give us a review after the show!!
