1. Dennis really was a hidden gem as far as song writing and singing |
|
I love this album. Farewell My Friend is my favorite song on it, and Riversong. I really like "Sound of Free", also. I wish I could get my hands on Bambu.
There was alot of talent in Dennis....unrecognized talent. He was not really recognized for the talent he had in the Beach Boys universe. He did shine on Sunflower with his songs. It's a shame he couldn't fight his demons and continue to make music. Dennis and Carl were awesome, gone way too soon.
I should pull out the "Two-Lane Blacktop" DVD and watch it.

You say 'fight his demons' that is rarely how it works.
Many times curses send things without free will 'demons or minions' after a person, if they belonged to that person why would they attack him?
That is part of the problem of people thinking someone else deserves some bad place, most of it is that thought sending things after those people to keep them in a bad place.
Although not sure who that guy is, if a person has 'troubles' it is rarely from his doing, but because someone or something else wants to try and stop them from doing something, or make them do something else.
There is a good side that helps people also.

Metaphorically meant, his "demons" were his addiction to alcohol and drugs, and psychological aftereffects of his short relationship with Charles Manson and the family, and his father's abuse.
Dennis Wilson was the drummer for the 60's band The Beach Boys.

6. I'm not sure Manson affected him as much as his dad, the drugs and the 70s themselves |

3. The Beach Boys' last rock-solid, Brian-penned hit was "Sail On Sailor"... |
|
...from 1973's "Holland."
The "Brian Is Back" phase of the band (15 Big Ones, Love You, M.I.U. Album, L.A. (Light Album), Keepin' the Summer Alive, 1976-1980) was wildly erratic and produced an odd gem here or there, so Wilson's 1977 solo album made two major impressions on critics at the time:
First, it was better than anything released during the aforementioned "Brian Is Back" era by the Beach Boys.
Second, NO ONE thought Dennis had an album like this in him.
The "Deluxe Edition" CD features the second album that never happened. More gems, not "better than" Pacific Ocean Blue. 33 years later, I see the album as one moment of cohesion and brilliance from a tragically fucked up artist. Six years later, Dennis was gone.
