1. That people wont learn what they should do.
Edited on Sun Sep-19-10 02:56 AM by RandomThoughts
Although they will pay.

 But been learning that for awhile.

The funny part is they say the same about me, but without any reason or better thoughts of many in society.

So they better set things right.

2. Quite a bit actually
humility, compassion, what really matters in my life, patience and the ability to actually take one day at a time.

More concrete things like how to manage my bank account, how to fix things, all the things I never had to do by myself because my husband took care of them.

4. That I'm screwed.
Edited on Sun Sep-19-10 03:16 PM by rrneck
And I don't much care.

The orifices in a gas stove conversion from natural gas to LP are matched to their burners.

That I am much more sympathetic to religion and faith than I thought I was.

Tomato cages might not be as much of a pain in the ass as I thought.

It is possible to do two applications of stain under the right circumstances.

Very few people are as smart as I thought they were. A few are much smarter. (I am constantly relearning that one)

Ending a bad relationship with a jerk can be quite liberating, especially having the last words and having those words be, "fuck you".

Living the way you think life should be lived could cost you everything, but maybe I didn't need most of it anyway.

5. That I should always trust my first impressions.
They are usually spot-on.

6. That a precise and adequate definition of justice has been written.
By a fellow named John Rawls, some forty years ago.

I also learned that turning 48 is a lot like turning 47, but I rather expected to learn that.

I learned a husband can use the "silent treatment" too, and it's damn effective. Shouldn't need to do it again soon.

I learned, much to my surprise, that the President and Congress can indeed pass effective legislation when they want to (I'm referring to Wall Street reform, which doesn't go nearly far enough but as far as I can tell actually should help). I thought it was impossible to do so in today's corporate-controlled government.

I learned that Pat Riley is still one of the sharpest tools in the shed, may he and his precious Miami Heat burn in hell forever. And lose, a lot.

7. That a 2 year old can totally rule you.
And that a 2 year old, espcially mine, is the most precious thing. ;)

9. I've learned about boundaries.
People have to respect mine, even if they are my fellow Democrats.

I can't change other people. I can only change the way I react to their behavior.

It is possible to quit smoking, even at my age.

I will get used to using a Mac.

11. I am a different person now with my mother passing and my dad not far behind.
I never knew them growing up really so I became more of a friend then child.

I learned to forgive and move on.

I am learning about my mother from her journals she kept.

Life is what you given to deal with, do the best you can.

Try to have fun along the way.

This is what I learned this year.

13. That ATM stands for "automatic teller machine." A small thing,
but it was a big revelation for me.

Also, that politicians sometimes, don't, you know, do anything they say they're going to do once they're in office. Shocking.

17. Never trust a politician.
Any politician at any level of government ever.

(This is not a swipe at the POTUS. I actually have some local people in mind.)

18. That a Vitamin D deficiency can make me feel really crappy.
It's a real issue here in the often-sunless Pacific Northwest. After testing and some prescription-level supplementation my Vitamin D level is where it ought to be and I'm amazed at how much better I feel. Most surprisingly (to me, at least) is how much my mood has improved and has remained good despite our cold, crappy spring and summer this year.
