Project Bicycle Recycle (pics)

I've been trying to teach my daughter the value of not just throwing something away because it's old and running out to buy a new one.

A friend gave me this old bicycle a while back and it was the perfect learning opportunity plus it gave us something to do together. I couldn't get the pedal crank out of the frame so we decided to let the overspray from the primer and paint just land where it may and create a cool psychadelic effect on the sprocket and pedals :hippie:

She picked the color and I applied one of my patented poof can paint jobs. :P

1. You're a wonderful father and your daughter looks all set with her crash gettup
and hot pink bike. It doesn't even look like the same bike.

Ya know, when a Dad understands the importance of pink and fluff, he's a great Dad indeed!

3. Good job, guitar man. She's going to love you for this.
If you ever do need to get that crank arm off, just remember that the pedal on the left (as you are sitting on the bike) side is opposite threaded. And the bearing cone adjuster and locking nut are also opposite threaded on the left side. That prevents it from spinning itself out when pedaling.

I always try to stop bikes from ending up in the landfill. My record is pretty good.

What you did was really cool.

Good on you.

Cheers.

4. Thanks
Yeah I remembered that they were left handed threads, but they were gouged up pretty bad, I was afraid that if I did get it off it would strip it to the point where I'd never get it back together again. She likes the far out colors better than the chrome anyway :)
