1. I was just thinking about this beautiful song the other day, and how it now has a wistful,
bittersweet feeling attached to it for me. To me, it epitomizes a brief moment in American history when there was a genuine feeling that , while far from everyone, enough people were waking up to the possibilities of what this country could be like , and saw that living in true brother (and sister)hood was not a pipedream , but a real thing that could be achieved. Of course, this was threatening to those that profit from hate, fear and division, who freaked out at the dawning consciousness they saw, and threw all their money and power to spew out propaganda to stop it. But again, music like this is at once uplifting in its message, but bittersweet in its reminder of what could have been, and I fear may have been a chance that won't come again.
