What DU has taught me

i am an older dude, i have never been compatible with modern living.i found the exception in computers which for an unknown reason i have an easy time making do what i want.
because i used the computer for information gathering, to help at work and home, i had neglected the communications properties of computers.
my skills in regard to online chat were terrible and i came off often as rude
in i think 2008 early on i found this site because it was mentioned on talk radio being played at a job.i lurked for a while and began posting my opinions and defending them when i felt they deserved defense.this site became my news first site and it never has let me down in its ability to inform and educate and debate.one day ,someone gave me a star.it had to be explained to me what it meant.i never found out who did, but the spirit of their generosity and the trust that i would not abuse their gift, was very moving.if that was you i hope i havent too deeply disappointed you.and again just a month or so ago when i was not looking good but could see the corner coming another DUer reached out and restarred me. i know who it was and we have made our terms,(love you, you know who you are)

so here is what i learned on DU

on the other end of every post there is a person
a real live person

it seems sad to have to say it

After reading through 'that' thread, I feel better about my naivete around here. I also feel better that my posts only generate a response or two, then seem to fade in the night.

Maybe because I try to be mostly positive and supportive, and also silly and weird.

But always pretty neutral. Thank goodness.

Yes, there are people on the other end.

Living and breathing.
