Another sign of fall approaching...
It gets dark a lot sooner now.

It's almost dark out, and it's 7:30 pm.

Used to be still light at 9 pm.

1. The fall equinox takes place at 11:09 p.m. on Weds.
There will be 12 hrs. of daylight and 12 hrs. of darkness. At least that is what our local weatherman just said. :hi:

2. Your local weatherman is not quite right

While sunrise and sunset times might be approximately 12 hours apart, the twilight periods add about another hour of daylight to the day. Which reminds me of the following trivia question:

How much of the earth's surface is illuminated by sunlight at any given time of the day?

The obvious answer would seem to be 50%. If the Earth had no atmosphere, it would be 50%. But, because the earth's atmosphere refracts sunlight around the horizon for a while after the sun has set and before the sun has risen, the answer is actually more than 50%.
