Eagles coach Reid - Vick is now starting QB - Kolb "Has a bright future." |
|
Kolb suffered a concussion halfway through game 1 vs the Packers, and was replaced by Vick, who did well, an dwho played very well in game 2. Kolb was scheduled to be the starter vs Jacksonville Sunday till yesterday, when Reid made the announcement.
On the Eagles website, Reid states that Vick is regaining his "superstar" abilities and that it would be foolish to keep him as a backup.

2. LOL. Vick is seriously overrated as a QB as well |
|
I mean of course all those SB victories in Atlanta should tell you right? In a few weeks of defensive scheming agaisnt Vick he'll look to be the totally inaccurate thrower that he is. Oh and in a conference of hard hitting D's I wouldn't expect him to stay healthy either.

3. Reid called Vick a "superstar"...I must have missed that part of his career... |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-22-10 07:24 AM by old mark
Reid also stated that Vick had led his team to a Superbowl, even thought they lost... So did McNabb, dude...
I think the Redskins are going to have a great season, not so much Philly. I wonder if I can get the 'Skins games here in PA on Dish....have to call them.

added: That "Kolb has a bright future" thing sounds likt they are getting rid of him...they said that about Donovan, too, 2 years ago!

4. The other problem is that the Eagles don't seem to have |
|
much of a running game except Vick. When you guys play a well prepared defense I think thats going to seriously show..That one Atlanta team that went to the SB they had a great D and a great running game. Depending on one flashy guy to win your games is really foolish. I used to think Reid was a good coach. Not so much anymore.

9. I know, the murderous thug was never a "superstar" ... just wait until he starts |
|
when they play a real team...Kolb won't be on the sidelines long.

15. Vick is the Jim McMahon of the post-McNabb era |
|
At one time he might have been something and every once in awhile he can still show some brilliance but he's still just another QB filling the gap until we find McNabb's successor (which btw ain't Kolb either)

I'm thanking my lucky stars,
The Eagles offensive line is, quite frankly, offensive. Hell, Detroit sacked Vick 6 times and Vick is still one of the most elusive qb's in the game.

6. If I was Kolb, I wouldn't bother to unpack ...Reid seems to have had plans for this team |
|
that obviously did not work, even this early on, and the season may look brighter to him with Vick... I still see no advantage over Donovan, but that's a dead horse, as Eagles management evidently does not make mistakes, ever - just ask them!
I was a real fan of Reid's, but I think he's lost his magic-also has many out injured already, and all his depth players are new guys.
I really am thinking the Skins will do very well in this division and no one else looks too capable.

8. This was a question asked Mike Missenelli this morning |
|
when Mike and Mike had him on his show,
How much of this decision was made by the ownership group since Reid literally changed him mind overnite?
I think it's legit given the amount they have invested in Kolb and they're afraid he'll get busted up to the point where he'll become Ryan Leaf II.

10. Vick and Kolb will be one of the many QBs we'll suffer thru until our next superstar QB |
|
I remember the period between Randall Cunningham had many 'bright future of the Eagles' QB but none of them lasted for more than a partial season.
I knew the moment we traded Donovan and announced Kolb as the starter that he would have 3 games tops until he was replaced with Vick. I'm not here to discuss the history of Vick but he'll do for about a season until we give another random draft a chance. But it will be about 2-3 years until we get another starter QB with the same high quality caliber as Cunningham or McNabb.

11. I recall some lean years after Jaws ( some of the Jaws years weren't great, either) |
|
and I think 3 years is optimistic...it feels like they are about to seriously fall apart, with much blame and wailing...Think I'll be a Skins fan for a while.

We'll get these amazing QB that will rule over the Eagles Nest for years and then we'll have periods of obsurity which usually results in us sucking.

13. I still say that was their plan all along. |
|
Kolb never did anything last year to look like the QB of the future. They knew that naming Vick as their started in the offseason would start a firestorm amongst bored journalists and fans, so they named Kolb as the starter. They knew he'd fail within a few games, and they could slip Vick in the back door with a lot less attention focused on it, and with the excuse that they didn't have a choice.
Notice they never redesigned the offense around the more stationary Kolb. They were waiting for Vick.
Doesn't bother me any. Now maybe a few more people will root for my Great and Glorious Cowboys against the hated Eagles.
Although I can't wait to hear the announcers get their subtle digs in. "Vick looks dog tired out there." "These two teams are in a real dog fight now." "(for when they play Green Bay) The Pack is ripping Vick to pieces." And of course, "Vick is drowning in a sea of blue jerseys."

14. Yeah that was about as obvious as the nose on your face |
|
Even I figured they really wanted to go with Vick but knew there could be outrage if they announced it last year. Better to show Vick off in a few games where he actually looks pretty decent and then say "this is our starter".

On the other hand, being in Austin, I'm also a Texans fan, so this next game creates conflict. :(
