Post a video of your favorite, local, UNSIGNED band or musician!
If you know of a local (or not-so local) musician that fellow DU'ers have probably never heard of because they don't yet have a recording contract, and if they have a link to a performance on YouTube, post said link so we can all watch it and comment upon their song.

And, when posting, please tell us why you like the band or artist.

If enough people post links, perhaps we can have a future "Battle of the Bands" thread where we vote for our favorite.

1. Here's our local band, Holy Water Buffalo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yBgPwr7a8s

They've won a couple of Battle of the Bands here, and put on a good, energetic show. They have an interesting mix of groovy, eclectic, stoner influence and some hard rock chops. They've only been playing together for a bit more than a year.

Here's their first music video, which they're hoping will help them get a recording contract. "I'm Alright":

10. I really like the creative video of "I'm Alright"
Had to watch it twice because the first viewing I got so wrapped up in the watching I forgot to do the listening. Do you know if they did the video themselves or hired a company to do it? It's very creative and professional.

A bit hard for me to figure out if I like them or not but only really because it's not the sort of style of music I tend to go for... I like much harder rock for the most part, but I also like other kinds of music too. For their style I think they're pretty good.

17. They hired a local guy to help them with the video. I think their
parents ponied up some money to help them get it done. The drummer's dad is the band director at our intermediate and high schools, so my daughters have band with him.

Yeah, it's not normally my type of music, it's more Deadhead than what I listen to. But I think they sound good and have definite potential. Who knows if it'll lead to anything...

4. She has a good voice. Nice sound--I love the accordion in there.
The dancing guy in the green shirt was the best.

3. I wish I had video of Ala Carte, a garage/backyard band from L.A. County way back in the late 70's.
They absolutely ROCKED. They played a version of The Kinks' "Skin and Bones" that had a five minute intro.

There was an L.A. radio station with the call letters KWST (K-West) that put out an album of local bands and they were on it with a song called "Old No. 7 Brand".

They played backyard parties, small venues, and once played in a Battle of the Bands at Knotts Berry Farm with The Plimsouls. They won.

8. It's ABSOLUTELY the same band! I'm sitting here trying to pick my jaw off of the floor...
If only there were a video of them playing Skin and Bones...

I don't know how to thank you for that. I'm sitting here drowning in memories of back yard parties and battles of the band... I must have seen them at least 50 times.

14. Yeah, I looked. I couldn't find Skin and Bones.
Too bad these guys didn't make it bigger. They had a great sound. They sort of remind me of Foghat, but several of the YouTube commenters mentioned how these guys must have been a big influence on Van Halen.

15. Nice, mellow groove.
The guy sounds like Camper Van Beethoven's singer.

Are they all under 18?

9. Shovelhook
This is the only "real" video they've ever made. Sadly, I don't think it's one of their better songs, so I don't know why they chose to do this one. Ah well. I also don't have any idea who had the idea for all the face paint... I think it looks weird and not "them". THe hair (or lack thereof) is "them" though. Their song "So Sorry" gets a lot of radio air play... or at least it did. I'm not sure about that anymore because I never listen to the radio anymore (Philly radio totally sucks). Their song "Breathe" is being used for the theme song to some tv show, but I don't think its them that either plays or sings it for the show. Apparently, that's how it works... they buy only the rights to use the song or some such thing. Their live shows are awesome, and I admit I'm really picky... you better be amazingly entertaining from start to finish or I'm walking out.

I've known these guys for something like 15 or 17 years now. The singer, bass player and drummer are all brothers. The bass player, Frank, is my bestest buddy in the whole world... I always called him my fifth brother since I already have four brothers. I'm embarrassed that I haven't talked to any of them, even Frank, since Christmas, but they know I'm like that and have always been ok with it. I tend to pop in and out of peoples' lives with no warning or explanation even after a year or two. That's one thing I always liked about these guys is that we can go that long without speaking and the next time we see each other it's just like we were hanging out just the day before.

I like them not just because they're friends but because they're good particularly instrumentally. Hononestly, I think Chris, the singer's, voice is pretty average but he's a really good frontman. Puny lil dude that he is, he's got huge presence and energy that can be exhausting just to be around. Believe it or not, they're all in their mid-30's/early 40's... I just realized watching the video again they look so damn young. Suddenly I'm feeling ancient.

12. Can't think of one
The closest one I can think of has a large underground following but they are signed to a record label that is independent and probably one most people never heard of.

18. Nice. Some Sarah MacLachlan influence. Haunting voice.
Does she always perform sola, or does she sometimes have a band?
