Fake beer
(with apologies to FLVegan, who I'm sure considers the entire subject to be no less than heresy):

So I bought a six-pack of Buckler (fake Heineken) today, and I really have to say it doesn't taste too bad. Quite good, as a matter of fact, and certainly better than a lot of the alcohol-included swill I've had in the past.

Especially when you put a shot of vodka in the glass. (Just joking about that part; you probably all know I have abstained from alcohol for quite some time - dammit. I have to do it, but I don't have to like it.)

Anyway, I never liked real Heineken, but the no-alcohol version? Yeah, I'd recommend it to anyone who'd like to have a frosty one on a hot day without the negative consequences.

1. I have not stopped drinking, however I have not been out for a beer in awhile.

Although drinking is not the point, the point is some people use free will choices to try and isolate people.

And it does not work to isolate people.

For some people there is nothing wrong with alcohol, I think both Mormons and Islam disagrees with that, for social reasons.

I am not Mormon nor Muslim, why would I be, I like beer and drinks with friends with good music and even an occasional game of pool. And I do more good then bad in those situations, something people can not figure out. when they go after card board cut outs.

One of the 'tricks' played on people is to try and take away joyful things by making them seem bad, sometimes it can be bad for some people, but if that is not a problem you have, that does not make it bad for you. That was the trap of the puritans also.

Even back in old Jewish times, the leaders use to walk around staring at the ground fearful that seeing a women might get them to lust. Others hide women because they so fear what would happen if they lust, then they teach people to dream about a day of sex with many virgins, pretty contradictory if you ask me.

If you only lust when seeing a women, you miss the beauty, however there are many joys in life that can be about intimacy, much of lust is wanting something for only your own joy(selfishness), not with intimacy and sharing love.

And Puritans were told anything fun was bad, again trying to take away joy from groups, it is seen in many places.

2. A beautiful woman is EVERY bit a miracle of nature (or God's work,
if you will) as a mountain or a waterfall. Not a damn thing wrong with looking at, and appreciating, a pretty woman. Mrs R even points out the outstanding ones to me when we're out in public.

As far as alcohol, I can't drink for medical reasons. But there's not a godalmighty thing wrong with people getting together for a drink. I'll still do that; I just gotta have the fake beer. And I'll enjoy it because of being in good company, I promise you that.

In my opinion.

4. Yea it is about the social enviroment.

Some see the meaning of a bar, as a place where people drink, some see it as a place where some that drink go to socialize with people. And since it is not about the drink, you can go to a bar and drink what ever, and it is not that much different.

Depends on what is in your macro for the meaning to bar I would guess.

5. To be honest, beer -- like coffee -- was something I consumed almost purely...
.

.
.
...for the medicinal effect.
.
.
Oh, there were some beers that were pretty tasty (I spent almost 4 years
in Germany), but I would MUCH rather drink juice or soda if I'm drinking
for taste.
.
.
.
.
.
.
The only NA beer I ever tried was one of the early ones (I can't remember
its name) and it was pretty putrid.

The bartender at the Elks Lodge where I had my first "official" teenage
job was a recovering alcoholic who went through several sixpacks of it
every night.

.
Interesting. In the study report linked below, one university study found
that a glass of "standard" orange juice had 0.2 - 0.5% alcohol (most NA
beer has about 0.5%)... thus, in states with 0.2 BA level tolerance for
minors, about 6 glasses of OJ could put a teen over the limit.

ZING Beer -- THAT'S the major (and near-only) near beer (at
least that I was aware of) during the 60's - early 70's.

6. I thought Buckler sucked moose cock. Old Millwater NA is much better and much cheaper
Which is REALLY funny since regular Old Millwater IS moose cock.

9. Funny? I was dead serious! The most expensive NAs are the most disgusting.
They're all fruity and smell like a locker room.

The cheap ones like Old Millwater, American and even Busch actually TASTE like beer. The order in which I listed them is my order of preference.

11. Keep in mind, Roon... that you're still gettng SOME alcohol with O'Douls...
.
.
.
...although I couldn't find that info on THEIR website (they
simply say the "alcohol is gently extracted" during the final
manufacturing process (probably heated), the website that I
did find with the alcohol contents of different beers (most
beers between 4-5%) said that O'Douls STILL had 0.4% in it.
.
So, although they've cut out 90% -- if you're avoiding ALL
alcohol, you may need to look around for a substitute (though
I didn't run across them, different sites did say that there
are COMPLETELY alcohol-free beers out there).
.
.
.
Try Vernor's Ginger Ale (sold at Detroit Tiger's Stadium when
I was growing up and DETESTED by me -- now it's one of my
favorites) or a Jamaican Ginger Beer -- they're simply sodas
with real ginger flavoring... so they're spicy and can be
hot (I don't like them).
