If the country is moving to the right, why am I moving to the left?

As recently as 5 years ago, I was a blue-dog Democrat. I was a dues-paying member of the DLC. Heck, I even paid good money to go to New York to attend a DLC conference (I met Bill Clinton!).

Nowadays, I keep wishing it was possible for president Obama to be more, well... socialistic.

I know Obama is a center/left kind of guy. And in this environment, I don't blame him for playing things down the middle. So, no, I have not gone so far as to be on of those folks who lambasts Obama from the left. I am still a huge supporter.

But, that said... I have personally moved pretty far to the left. I want single-payer health care. I want top marginal income tax rates put back to Eisenhower-era levels. I want cap and trade. I want to see deep cuts in the Pentagon budget. If Van Jones ran for office, I'd vote for him.

What the heck is wrong with me?
