All DU flight attendants: what tips do you have for interviewing?
I applied for a Delta flight attendant position as an Italian speaker (which is my native tongue). I am now waiting for the face-to-face interview in Atlanta to be scheduled. I am familiar with the pros and cons of the position: dealing with difficult passengers, safety first, low pay, etc.

What tips, advice, suggestions, feedback would you give me?

1. You have to REALLY want to travel to work as a flight attendant.
I'm on the other side (passenger). I HATE flying anymore and I'm a person who loves to go places.
The airlines are nothing but greedy, lying, capitalist a$$holes. You want to work for them?
Really?

If you have a second language, I'd go for something else before working for the airlines.

2. I actually love flying...
believe me, I've done it a lot. I've also handled very difficult people in my career (including high maintenance celebrities, supermodels, regular folks, construction workers, government officials, bureaucrats from all over the world, etc.).

To be honest, I live in an area (southeastern NC) where my language skills don't matter (except for Spanish, which I use on a daily basis). Salaries in this area are also abysmally low. Nevertheless, I cannot move because (1) my SO has a great job here that is secure, is specialized and pays well; and (2) we own a home which we would be unable to sell in this market.

Thus, this is an opportunity to combine things I can do (handling difficult customers, flying a lot, using my language) with the responsibilities of the flight attendant (safety above all, passenger comfort, etc.) in such a way that doesn't require me to move, sell the house and give up on my SO's career and job.

I know airlines are evil, but so are pretty much all the companies I've worked for. But I long to re-connect with my family and flying to Italy every other day or so would certainly allow me to do so.
